John, the sp that you quote for last year and 10 years ago are a real surprise to me. So what will it be next year? One thought that has crossed my mind is the aim listing and the advantage it gives our bod in passing on their wealth free of IHT. So what happens if labour changes that? If a change is announced in advance they could sell out or pass on their shares. A company sale could lift the sp significantly. Likelihood of that playing out is very low but I will be watching what labour says.

I think the JD fall is overdone as the Nike woes of competition and China are not their issue. Also if Nike believes it has done too much d2c will that mean better terms for JD?

The trading update looks poor - could the deal fail? Thinking of buying in if there is a big gap....

Chris, good points and given water vapour is 2 to 3 times more powerful than carbon dioside as a greenhouse gas and it makes up 4000 ppm in the atmosphere we really are barking up the wrong tree with carbon - but why would we let science get in the way?

Maybe they could erect a windturbine, buy an electrolyser make some hydrogen and sell it to the local bus company on Portland bill gaining revenues of £20k. Almost in the same league as Horsehill!

Delta, why would SGN plan to lay a pipeline at huge expense [ say £100m] through the hard rock of Portland to the solent cluster [ southampton?] or to connect to the national transmission system for say £50m, without a business case and capital from others? There are many pipelines in SGN's territory that are owned by others and UKOG need to find a partner prepared to link their caverns to a demand centre. It is up to them not SGN imv.

New investor, I have held these shares since flotation 27 years ago and they have been an outstanding success. I am sure you will do well over the next 27 years. In fact , now that England have stumbled into the last 16 we will likely do well over the next 27 days!

MV, at least that labour party figure was being honest, national grid need to invest £60bn in the next five years and all of that will be paid for by consumers. The DNO's likely another £60bn . So £100 bn for the networks, £100bn for generation, £250bn for air source heat pumps in peoples homes.£100bn for commercial premises. £5bn for more charging points. So thats £670bn to find , out of our £2000bn economy. But its OK we will all save on fuel duty and not pay the government £30bn per annum. heating or eating on a grand scale.!!!

As a bond proxy it does not surprise me that the sp has fallen when the bond yields are up and the market generally down. Not happy however!

Nigel Farage has said there are aspects of Trumps personality that he does not like but he likes Trump as president in preference to Biden. I actually dislike Trump and Biden and am irratated that Farage could not see that the EU would screw us over when we left. He has been better at predicting the effects of the eu expansion and middle eastern wars than any other politician , from what I can see although Jeremy Corbyn is a close second and that speaks volumes for the rest imv.

STP, thanks for the link - I did'nt read anything that indicated Reform have mad any statement about the Tripple Lock but I did read a few things that I liked including that the miners pensions surplus belonged to them ! So maybe they will get some bumper payouts and others will do likewise after the 2030 election when Reform form a government , assuming the Tory press and labour BBC dont destroy their prospects.

The real worry here is that Reform want to take £30bn off the banks to give all tapayers around £2k. Not sure how I feel about that - conflicted either way as a shareholder and taxpayer.

WRT cash this has risen by £27m over the year on profits of £15m - not a bad conversion rate considering they also paid out dividends. Not complaining but I think i will look into this a bit further and hope hmrc do not!

Don't think a labour government will look kindly on decent dividend payouts - the money will be better spent investing in GB Energy - they will surely advise. Given they will raise very little from hiking north sea taxes from 75% to 78% in killing off what remains of our indigenous oil and gas industry the money will have to come from somewhere and the banks are one of the last bits of UK plc with a decent cash pile as they will soon realise.

Pharm, wrt second half sales - my view is that the lumpy nature of defence orders makes comparisons one half to another challenging if the aim is to use trends for predictions. Nodoubt the comments about the Polish forecourt business are relevant. Ironically that division will perk up when the Ukraine war ends , potentially driving down the defence business !

Wrt future prospects , if the land based anti drone system takes off the sales potential is enormous and that would warrant a much bigger company owning the defence division imv. Hence my comments about selling that business. Exciting times.

Pharm, I doubt there was anything from the US contratc included given that the orders were placed quite close to year end which means delivery and payment unlikely imv - clearly it all depends on contratc terms.

WRT succession - the company has a problem in that it is now predominantly defence which realistically means it should hive off the other parts and recruit a sector expert or put itself up for sale.
