Lets all take a break from Valereum and this deal for a bit, and think about something COMPLETELY different.
Imagine for a moment, you have a house and it has been valued at £500,000. Someone offers to buy half of it from you by investing £2,000,000 into your house. You don't actually get that money yet, but you will on 'maturity'. But until you get it, they will pay you 7.95% of the money THEY are investing, so that is about £159,000 a year for you. Remember your house (that they get half of ) is only worth £500k. So when all is done you get the keep £250k value of your house (which may even go up!), all those annual payments AND £2m.
If someone came to you with that offer, but you hadn't met them, they were doing this for the very first and last time (there were no records of them doing anything like this, or actually anything at all, before or since), would you go for it? Or might you think it seems just a tiny bit too good to be true and wonder what was really going on?
If you decided to ignore the strangeness, would you claim your house was now generation £159,000 a year in revenue? Even though you weren't doing anything differently such as started to rent it out on airbnb, and the £159k was actually coming from the investment so if it is real, it exists completely independently of your house?
And if it was someone you knew who had the house and they told you they had agreed to this, would you think they must have something quite clever (and possibly a bit dodgy) going on with the mystery investor?
Maybe you'd feel a lot more confident it was all fine if you knew the investor had successfully operated a hairdryer and taken a few people snorkelling in the past?
