Good question i don't know how tight this business is but at a dealership level i would look at. 1 salesman numbers do you have the right number or have u kept that canny lad or lass that sells u 6 a month bet most site have one 15k basic plus car plus ni 2 car cleaning are they doing full valets selling the car 1 week later and doing a full valet again when a reclean should be done. 3 over promising car condition by sales team resulting in over spend on paintless repair etc 4 tech numbers how efficient is the shop do they need all the tech ? 5 courtesy cars could they manage on 1 less 6 stock limit could this be reduced by 50k per site by better pipeline control, delivery control and mix. These are just a few i would look at x that by 127 sites. Then what savings can be made at hq ? There are many more if i but some effort into it.

Zzzzzzzz so here goes. The future? Will the pound improve? No £1.05 to £1.10 new norm. New car sales will they fall yes further 5% Will tariffs be applied to new cars. No we will strike a deal or the manufacturers will absorb most of the cost. So how will this affect vtu it won't bottom line but it will affect the following. 1 stock limit will reduce to help cash flow. 2 op stock and fully paid new cars plus demo stock run to minimum needed. 3 pre reg deals will have to be very attractive to vtu going forward. 4 massive push on aftersales 5 head count looked at all levels (redundancies? ) 6 big push on war on waste. This is only my opinion so welcome feedback.

Yes great bit of business by Peter walked away with 160m Robert however was desperate for lookers to buy but Peter had promised his share's at £8. Spac3y your right about most sites (volume) aiming for 1k retained but this made up of a range of stock aging, risk (5%) target cars and nuggets. Model mix is the key 1 right mix between franchise and non 2 price range banding 3 target cars and up sell strategy. 4 risk stock (5%) sports exe etc 5 colours and doors Then and equally important condition ie clean, prepped,cosmetically prepared and priced right. Stock mix is key to this 1k plus never settled for that myself 1200 was my aim. I know at the moment we are not at the situation i talk about when it comes to new cars but it could happen thats when this is even more important not that it not anyway. Have a good weekend .

The trouble with losing new car sales is you lose your golden nuggets. The 2 year old supplied by u fsh minted swaper. Thats the car you lift 2.5k from you lose 5 of those a month u have to find 12.5k from some where. U cannot buy that type of car at auction the best cars always come from new car swapers plus all the other reason mentioned before. Now how do u make that up from normal stock u have to sell more for less do the math. You can't make it up from aftersales if your shop is already 110% efficient and all your hours are sold. As i said to many bad memories. I got out in 2010 it took 3 times of resiging to get free. Those were the days ehh. 20 years with vardys were great 3.5 with the dragon were awful. Good luck lets hope things get better.

Spac you mentioned the pdg vardy takeover i can talk first hand on that albeit to many bad memory's. Ran 2 dealerships up north very profitable and then 17 for pendragon. I watched these sites derailed by undervaluing the good folk who worked them. Ok the timing was bad recession and all that. Its goes back to what we were debating it takes very little to break a small margin organization. However vtu is best placed along with lookers to ride this out.

Well that's me told i could pick it apart but we will just go round in circles. Most of what you state on paper works but harder on the ground. I am a ramper compared to Jolly. Jolly quiet at the moment must be counting his cash.

New car sales falling volumes, problems are 1 new car sales generate used cars. With falling volumes = used car shortage putting more pressure on increasing used margins due to less volume. 2 fleet company change their roll cycle from 6 to 9,12 months increasing that shortage of nearly new cars hitting volumes once again. 3 shift to retailing older used cars as a result losing service business as the indi's pick this up and losing very high margin warranty service's not to mention warranty work itself. To say your not to concerned about new car volume's?????? Unemployment well your not from the northeast of England or the Welsh valleys. The rest are political answering to ifs buts and maybes.

The broker rating was a downgraded from 52p to 46p how can that be good. ?????

Good post but its not that simple no tariffs is only one part of the whole problem as i see it. Falling pound increased import cost. Higher living wage increased cost. Rising inflation less cash to spend. Reversal in downward unemployment less customers. Low margin business to start with aftersales only savor. Its going to be hardwork keeping the city happy.

Today. If your in this and any other stock and can't hold long because u need your cash u will nearly always sell low and get your fingers burnt. Day trading is something i am crap at. Tired it lost 60% of the time good buzz when u get it right but need skills i don't have.

I will try and bring some hope back to all who feel its all gone wrong. Back in 2008 i put 26k into 4 stocks 6 months later that was worth 14k. Just like now my choice was to sell and stick to see reading the big issue or hold long and be brave 2 years later without buying or selling a share it was worth 61k. Now i am not saying that will happen again but luck favor's the brave ( maybe ) live long and prosper.
