RE: Lynparza in the press19 Mar 2022 21:01
Mulder, the Lynparza connection came from myself a while ago. As always, the major caveat being... I have no inside knowledge or expertise in this area, so it is purely speculation on my part. But here is my thinking (worth talking through as a refresher)
What we know from the company:
NXP004 is a cocrystal of an existing small molecule, targeted therapy drug (for 'targeted' see half year results 24 Dec 2019).
The existing drug is a blockbuster with 2020 sales of £1bn
Its patent status runs out later this decade.
So.. here's my thoughts.
Lynparza is a brand name... the actual drug is called Olaparib
NFX described NXP004 as 'targeted oncology therapy drug' .... this aligns with Olaparib being a PARP inhibitor type drug which is classed as a 'targeted therapy drug'
https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-terms/def/parp-inhibitor
Lynparza 2020 FY product sales $1,776,480 or circa £1.3bn
Olaparib patent runs out circa 2027, its difficult to know exactly as Astra cloak it with numerous patents to make it difficult to know.
And finally, Dr Anne Brindley was involved when Astrazeneca acquired Kudo Pharma to get their hands on Lynparza, she even mentioned it in her first NFX interview.
