The aviation minister is discussing the policy with the airline industry on Saturday. Might not be as grim as the headlines suggest. Interesting that Sky, Bloomberg and others have not run with this story yet. Hopefully a more accurate description of the policy will come out over the weekend. On a positive note it might provide a plan to get the airline industry going again. Alternatively if the Times / BBC headline is true the govt will have to provide additional financial support to the industry.

In the absence of a magic wand to resolve the current issues faced, this is the only sensible choice left. It could have been worse with the govt banning flying altogether!

Actually think you will see 250 by end June. May get a quick bounce if govt gives some much needed support to Airline industry which is not seen to favour any particular company.

BT now have a fight on their hands with Virgin/O2 so need to crack on! Now the burden of dividends has been removed the SP will start to rise. 130p by end of June

Will be interesting to see what Boris announces on Sunday to get the industry up and running. Could lead to a short term jump in SP

Will be interesting to see how they get out of their contract with Boeing for new planes that are no longer affordable...

Despite all the measures taken IAG are still burning cash as £200m per week. IAG planning for return to action in July but that’s over optimistic given how long a vaccine will take which is the only safe way to protect passengers. Getting out now!

For what it’s worth the PE of 2.71 is astounding value even compared to other airline companies and half that of EasyJet which is ridiculously overpriced.
As for being greedy, I naturally want to get the best price and make as much money as possible in the long term. For this I make no apologies:-)

Would be fine if they were Fed Ex but for a company based on flying passengers it really is a small consolation sadly

I think IAG is a great long term buy but I am worried why the brokers (except for Goldman Sachs at 250p) are not giving a target price. This seems to support the views on here that the price may go down further before it recovers. I want to buy IAG but think it’s best to hold off until the price drops further...

Long term IAG will bounce back strongly post restructuring. However, in the shorter term I expect manufacturers specialising in private jets to benefit from the current situation. I expect the wealthiest to switch from First Class on commercial airlines to private jets. Never underestimate the wealth that is out there...

First my sincere condolences to the BA staff affected. But when you look at what IAG are doing in this hard cold capitalist world in which we all live, it is genius.
1. Make uk govt aid a non starter so the government can not justify bailing out loss making Virgin which will give IAG a monopoly.
2. Quickly reduce the headcount which equates to the greatest outgoing during any downturn.
3. Reduce the cost of the entire remaining workforce in a way it wouldn’t have dared under normal trading conditions. IAG have nothing to fear from a strike because they’re not flying planes! By the time volumes start to pick up In Autumn the dirty work will already be complete and IAG will have its leanest healthiest set up in history!

Today’s announcement to reduce pilots by 25% equates to a long term 25% reduction in BA capacity so considerably less across the whole of IAG. Considering the shares were trading on three times their current value the long term growth potential for IAG share is enormous. I expect shares to double in value within 2 years even in the worst case scenario! The painful restructuring IAG are carrying out will make the company much more profitable than it previously was even if its smaller in size.
