It's funny... UK GDP is set to grow a healthy 3-4% in 2022... The IMF said yesterday that the UK in 2022 will be the *fastest-growing economy in the entire G7 group* -- for the second year in a row... UK unemployment sits at a record low of 3%... Wages are improving across the board at an average of +5%...

But all one (mostly) ever hears from the BBC is doom and gloom and recession clickbait.

As predicted, weeks ago, LLOY sliding back into the 30s.

Rumours that Santander UK is now struggling with bad debts. Plus, the govt looks set to hammer UK banks with yet another windfall tax.

This could easily (and swiftly) return to the 25-35p range.

The hysteria on this forum is getting ridiculous.

The UK economy grew a strong +4% YoY in Q2 2022.
Unemployment hit a record low of 3% in Q3 2022.
Wholesale inflation has peaked and is starting to fall in Q4 2022.

Millennials today are (sadly) still suffering from the previous Labour govt. The 2008 unprecedented mega financial crash, the surge in low-cost labour that suppressed wages for struggling communities -- it all came under red Labour.

Any dip in the UK housing market of (say) -10% would be met with a wave of buyers from abroad (cheap sterling) and at home (desperate to get on or up the ladder). Any dip would be very short-lived. Brits are mad for houses.

How "patient" does one want to be?

Aldi's global revenue is 2 times bigger than Tesco. For scale, Tesco is a global minnow. Not to mention Tesco's ridiculously unproductive carparks (too big), unproductive stores (too big), and unproductive range (too big). Aldi is in a whole different business league.

The UK today is plunging toward recession. Just like 2008, cash-strapped consumers will head for the cheapest shop. That is not Tesco... It is Aldi. The price gap now is huge!

We are living (right now) thru the end of the British supermarket industry. It is too inefficient to compete. Think British Leyland vs. BMW-Mercedes in the 1980s.

How can TSCO be a "defensive play" -- the share price has plunged -70% from its peak, Aldi and Lidl are grabbing share offline, while Amazon is chipping away online. It's about as defensive as Nottingham Forest's back line!

Loads of mortgage-search engines out there, mate, such as Moneyfacts or MSE. Chat with a good broker. There are still good deals on offer, hidden among the hysteria.

Loads of loans and mortgages still out there -- right now -- at tiny 2-3% interest rates. Plenty of (very) cheap money still available.

Once the Covid-caused inflation works its way out of the system next year, the cheaper deals will come pouring back. The world has $50t+ of spare cash looking for a home. Loads of spare money out there.

Not sure LLOY is a wise choice for its modest 5% dividend. Especially when the share price has plunged -85% from its peak. You can now get an entirely risk-free 5% interest rate with a highstreet bank (like Nationwide), and the best UK savings accounts may well leap toward 6% by Xmas.

That sum is only a tiny 2-3% of total UK state debt. And Britain today has just about the *lowest* state debt in the entire G7. Repeat that -- the lowest. The UK has plenty of headroom for fiscal tweaks. Plenty of headroom. That "report" smacks of anti-Britain, self-loathing hysteria. We are a weird country, who revel in talking ourselves down on the world stage. Very weird :-(

LLOY has overspent on buybacks, 10-15% beyond its original target. The LLOY share price has plunged -15% since the buyback was announced. And the buyback investment has lost -£70m. Doesn't seem like much of win so far.

The SAGA share price has collapsed -97% in just 6 years! One of the worst investments mankind has ever seen. Chart momentum looks ultra-bearish here.

Aldi and Lidl are taking over the UK supermarket industry. Their share goes up every year. Their collective UK marketshare has more than tripled from 5% in 2012 to a record 16% in 2022.

Tesco has plunged from 31% in 2012 to 27% in 2022 (and accelerating).

Aldi and Lidl (particularly Aldi) provide good food at ultra-low prices. For example, I stopped today at Waitrose to buy a tiger loaf, sliced pork, and marshmallows, for a cost of £8. Wandered round to Lidl, where roughly the same stuff and quality was £3. You can guess who took my cash...

I'm stocking up on baked bean tin, candles, and a torch.
