Something clearly needs to be done as staffing losses due to preemptive isolation could become crippling for businesses with infection rates running this high. Nissan pretty much had to close down production this week after losing a significant proportion of it's workforce due to getting pinged by the covid app.

Saw the BBC article this morning and my first thought was why the hell are you even having to say this, the products are already at your disposal and you surely know this. This stinks of politics being played between the upper echelons of the DHSC and NHS. Perhaps the NHS wants the DHSC to front up the money rather than use their budget through the framework.

@porky9, unless the replacement LFT is fundamentally different from the innova test with a USP then the public will just view it as new sh@t, same as the old sh@t. Most people I know don't know there is a difference between PCR and LFT, usually referring to PCR as a proper test and that's the extent of it. Often confusing an antigen test for an antibody test.

I'm agnostic with regard to which 'sovereign' test the DHSC may decide to eventually grace the public with but one thing's for certain they've got their work cut out in terms of adoption. This is going to be problematic if they want to replace isolation with a testing regime.

On TV tonight telling people to go straight for PCR rather than LFT if they suspect they've been exposed to covid or experiencing symptoms. Went as far as to say it wasn't a proper test.

The problem with the innova LFT is not just that it's sh@t, it's that it poisons the public's perception of any subsequent LFT that is introduced for mass use. If it has NHS on the box then the public will just assume it's the same one that didn't work before.
