RE: At todays Gas Prices24 Feb 2022 23:03
Indeed Baits. For what it's worth, early in the new year, before the Ukrainian situation became too obvious, I sent the following in an email to my local MP, which seems to back up your point of view.
Dear ********
I refer to your article in the (local village) newsletter, in which you say the green levy should be protected.
I have to say I am very disappointed in your point of view. You seem to have been influenced by the green lobby who I believe receive significant funding from hostile countries like China and Russia in order to influence opinion and damage our economy. Meanwhile, China built 100 new coal fired power stations last year and plan to continue to build at the same pace, and Russia have positioned themselves to ensure Western Europe is completely dependent upon them supplying gas. If you haven't you really should research the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. This country should be investing in cheap energy, and promoting our own domestic gas and oil supplies, even if that means using fracking.
Many people are soon going to be really struggling to keep warm. A quarter of our energy bills is going into the pockets of mostly foreign countries providing the technology which provides us with unreliable electricity supplies. And in this country we have enough gas to provide cheap secure energy for 50 years.
From a personal perspective I live in a very draughty house, impossible to insulate even if I had the funds, and I have no central heating. The only form of heating I have is one open fire for the whole house. This government recently banned me from being able to buy the cheapest form of house coal, so when my current stock runs out, I'll have to buy expensive smokeless coal - most of which is imported. So while the price of gas doesn't directly affect me, it will affect the price of everything we need to buy to live - and it's already a big struggle.
I have voted Tory all my life, but your views on energy seem more akin to those of the Lib Dems. This green agenda is toxic for the poor of this country. It far more suits the London middle class elite who support Extinction Rebellion.
Kind Regards
