The Russian owners, ERG, put the reprocessing company on care and maintenance in 2020. The Zambian government has been keen to get it re-opened and according to the report ERG are in talks with potential investors. I wonder who the investors are and who might take over the running of the reprocessing operation?

Completion of the Casa deal final payments and shares due with in the next 10 days, so could be this week or more likely next week.

Botswana soil sampling was ongoing by 15th June and should have been completed by end June. Samples were due to be sent away for analysis before deciding on drill locations. Depending on how long the analysis takes we might expect news from Botswana in the next few weeks.

Zambia drilling expected to start summer / autumn this year according to our man Ruffles. So its reasonable to expect we should hear a final announcement of the deal sometime this summer.

One thing which might be holding things up is the closure of the cadastre department until after the next Cabinet meeting, when findings will be discussed, prior to it re-opening. As part of license renewal it’s part of the rules that you surrender half the license area so we might expect to see other holding companies formed (as was the case with Afrimin and Handa) unless all of the licenses will be transferred into the new JV company ownership instead.

There’s a lot of metal value in them and then stabilize those for a net positive impact,” adds Kirkland.

In fact, by taking this approach some miners have found it can expedite the permitting process.

“You go in there and say: well, you’ve got a problem here, how about we pick this up, move it, reprocess it and stabilize it for the long term,” explains Kirkland. “The practices used decades ago were almost always not what we would consider nowadays to be responsible.”

Summit has been banging on with the same nonsense since he showed up here claiming to be a long term investor. Totally detached from reality. I put him in the filter bin rather than get involved with pointless arguments.

The 6 monthly operations update could be due any time in the next few weeks, in 2020 it was 16th July, in 2021 it was 6th August.

An interesting report commissioned by Glencore on Mopani back in 2011. Lots of information about the copper and cobalt circuits at that time. From what I understand, cobalt hasn’t been produced there in at least a decade so things may be much the same now as they were at the time. I wonder how much work Jubilee will have to do there in order to get things up and running again? Also some information on the nearby tailings dams.

I saw this article a while ago about Cobalt production restarting at Mopani next year. Surely if they were going to take advantage of historically high Cobalt prices they would have done it this year rather than waiting until next year. I suspect when they say ‘we’ are going to start next year they actually mean Jubilee!
