It has nothing to do with conspiracies. The cause are the rise of the ETF space which has entered markets at the worse possible time (i.e. after the mispricing of all asset following on the heels of QE and low rates of interests). When you add into the mix 'naked' and 'synthetic' ETF's, you have your reasons aplenty. And just so you never get what you are looking for, the algos will ensure that prices will remain unbalanced. To put it bluntly, like any maniac, you have to wait for this fella to knacker himself senseless.

You need a floor to get a bounce. Where is the floor?

If the present volatility persists, you may need to set your floor lower, say around 24ish.

I hasten to add that I do not think we are in any kind of market correction at present. We have only rediscovered volatility, which favour trading over investing. Good luck!

I am not distinguishing among the grocers - I can see that the market is 'bunching them' together, which makes pricing problematic. My views are skewed and not representative of an investor, as I am not committing cash, so can be to easy for me to say. I shorted Tesco from 280s to 220s, never expecting it to drop much further. I was surprised .But the market is so (perhaps needlessly) negative on the big grocer's that it's hard to put a number on it. But if you put a gun to my head and said: pick a number. then I would say, with a market correction (should it occur) then about a third lower than it is now. It may not stay there for long though (perhaps minutes) but with sentiment as it is, and mismanagement as it is, the feeling is that you should consider the worse case scenario. As always, DYOR. But don't become embittered of blind to facts. Learn that lesson from the fate of Opium. - Good luck with your trading/investment..

That's my point - the City driving it down. Do you imagine that by buying and 'topping up; and 'averaging down' with one's little bundles of shares will have any affect of the price? When in Rome, do as the Romans. QED!

Sure, but would you rather be a loser? Losing is fine, provided you learn from this experience and don't grow embittered and full of hate and bile for those who traded otherwise and profited. When I lose, I don't want others to lose. I engage bitterness at my peril. That is the lesson here. We are here to make profits (modest in the main). How many of those market makers in the City and on Wall Street are investors? A fraction I wager. Play THEIR game if you are gong to play. See this casino for what it is - a giant gaming house, a enterprise for fleecing, by any means, any one and anything thing without a care in the world about values, fundamentals, and all that tosh. It's all about opportunism. My morning is pleasant actually, thank you. I was only pointing out that the humbug Opium has been dogging me consistently for shorting Tesco at around the 280s down to the 220s. He would rather see me lose and lose and lose because he is become so embittered he hates anything and everything that turns a profit, or is presently all cash (such as I) who is happy to sit on the fence, place small trades, and wait for the major correction to get back into markets. - Good luck with your trading.

More moaning and groaning, it seems, from this long term embittered loser. More of the same puerile crassness, the loathing for those who will not buckle to delusion and hang on to a stock no matter what, ignoring trends, dismissing altered circumstances, of changing markets and shifting market sentiment. Would that this long term loser had the savvy to listen and heed the advice of others, had acknowledged reality instead of putting his head in the sand (or up his rear) and seeing the world and his investment in perfect order there. Beware of this humbug Opium. Play these markets, long and short, with a hard- headed approach. Learn from your mistakes, never allow them to bury you.

None of the legacy grocers are strong. The problems are structural, not cyclical. Riding this one out the normal way seems a bit too much to ask (in my opinion, and it is only my opinion). I tend to see this sector as a whole, not distinguishing between the major grocers. They are all up against the same structural constraints. It is for this reason I am sitting on the fence. This is a new grocery landscape, so the 'bottom' of yore is not going to be the bottom in today's radically shifting market. don't get caught in the past narrative trap, that these companies are defensives (in the sense of their past guise). The market has moved on. They are crowding each other out; and they cannot all be saved in their previous format. Consolidation of some kind must be on the cards. Trying to simply 'ride this out' is not the way forward, in my humble opinion.

You are a better judge than me. But the grocery sector is getting squeezed, it's ambitions felled by over expansion, and its costs based on a model where the UK shopped is expected to be a complaint goat paying whatever these guys charge. Given the changing environment, I would change management to suit. The present incumbents only think in terms of dominating a sector. They imagine they own it. That they 'own' us shopped, that they 'own' the cash we use to fill our shopping baskets. This is an attitude of mind that is hard set over decades. I would change the guys at the top without delay. They are not the ones to take this company forward. They will panic. They will not act decisively. Good luck with our trading.

I will only reiterate that you consider the sector as a whole There are so called 'products' out there like ETFs that buy and sell a sector as a whole. These can move markets far more than is rational or makes any sense. Good luck with your trading. And am pleased to hear your have limited exposure to any one stock.

You would be advised to be hard headed and read the sentiment (and acknowledge) the fundamentals of the grocery sector as a whole. As an outsider here, the recent faux pas that Sainsbury committed indicates they are panicking. Averaging down is a risk. Spread your cash around. Consider some utilities, for example, or other defensive stocks. Piling too much into one that is currently in decline is a sign your head is not screwed on right. Be hard headed. You are expressing the kind of complacency that led this company, and its legacy peers, into the doldrums. Things surely are not OK if they are losing market share? Look at grocery coolly. What is needed is some form of down-sizing or consolidation. There is no going back to the 'easy' days of over-charging and taking us Brits for granted. - I am not invested here, but was shorting Tesco a lot recently. I should have done the same here. But will desist taking any position (long or short) for the time being. - I only post this to reinforce the message that the city does not care about any company whatsoever. At the end of the day, as long as these (mis) managers receive their salaries, bonuses, perks, etc., the rest is merely 'the markets doing what they do' (which can mean just about whatever you want it to mean!)

I have sympathy for rational shareholders here, but SBRY, TSCO, MRW have all been part of the same shameless 'rip-off' Britain' story for way too long, and I have no sympathy for them per se. If the consumer is the ultimate beneficiary, then long term this is healthy for the general economy.
