So you now have

-World wide experts saying that coal is only going to grow in the near time future

- Experts and Business leaders within Bangladesh saying that they need to start developing their own coal reserves sooner rather than later

- The Interim Government saying that Bangladesh should use its own coal resources, and is doing the behind the scenes work ready for the new government to make a decision after the elections

- The BNP, who are predicted to win the next elections by a landslide, in their manifesto saying that Bangladesh should develop and use all their mineral resources in order to reduce imports

- The Jamaat party who are second in line to win the election, also saying in their manifesto, that the country should develop all its coal reserves

All we need now are for the elections, which hopefully will take place in February 2026…

The lead up to the end of the year is going to be fun for sure …..

In order of merit .............. I like the fact that coal is so high on the list ;)

Conclusion

The following can be recommended in order of merit:

- Professionally review the IEPMP with the help of Bangladeshi experts to develop a rational, integrated energy and power system master plan.

- Decide on mining domestic coal, preferably for use in power generation and industry.

So i am guessing that they are talking about Yunus and the Interim Government .....

"The current government must make strategic decisions to mine domestic coal."

Phulbari Solar Park

I see a few items from the Phulbari website have created some questions today …

I’m sure that most of the info can be confirmed from many of the links that have been posted or the actual GCM official website, and its hard work sometimes but to save those asking doing their own research, 😂😂

From GCM’s own RNS –

Solar Park

- The Project site can support over 2,000MW of Solar Power capacity throughout the Project life span, (potentially expanding to 2500MW in time) (Note, not “over”, but “throughout” the projects life span, this will supply the National grid and the mining site and equipment)

- The MoU is still valid, running until 6 December 2025

- Under its project plans, GCM Projects to build a large-scale solar park of at least 2,000 MW, with the possibility of expanding up to 2,500 MW over time

- Plans call for staged implementation, ideally within the first two years after securing land access and project approval

- The solar capacity is planned to supply both, the national grid (i.e. Bangladesh’s power network) and the Phulbari coal mine facility (machinery, on site electrics, vehicles, etc.)

- It’s intended to be operational well before first coal extraction, providing early cashflow and demonstrating “Green Mine” credentials

- Through the implementation of large-scale solar power in conjunction with the mine development schedule and the utilisation of emerging electric mining equipment, the Phulbari coal mine can achieve a Net Zero carbon emission "green" status and deliver an estimated 30% reduction in greenhouse gases versus the equivalent imported coal scenario.

- The large-scale Solar Power Park will off-set the power demands of the Phulbari coal mine and underpin its "green mine" credentials with net zero carbon emissions.

Anyway, moving on, this was another article that was written about the coal mining seminar ..... basically stating that Phulbari and Bara should both be open pit mined, and the Energy Adviser Dr. Fauzul Kabir who was the chief guest, stating that the Interim government was preparing a roadmap for the next government to give a decision on OPM at Phulbari / Bara .......

Mr. Saiful Islam informed the seminar that 'at times, we have struggled to pay coal import bills due to the foreign currency crisis'. HCU and BCMCL recommended for early decision of the government for developing Phulbari-Barapukuria coal mines. Energy Secretary said 'we must decide whether to use our own coal for power generation.' I was interested to read about the old WW2 airfield that you mention in your post Pappi, so just had a quick look around for further information and read the following three links, which was an interesting history lesson. It’s an old British air base, and they do again mention about the Chinese and the Teesta River project being taken off India, and given to the Chinese by Yunus ……………

King’s Party NCP: Fake voters in 25 upazilas, multiple frauds identified

The ‘King’s Party’, which grew under the patronage of the Yunus government, has shown evidence of one irregularity and mismanagement after another while seeking registration as a National Citizens’ Party (NCP).

The Election Commission (EC)’s initial verification revealed that the party’s constitution is flawed, 25 upazilas or police stations do not have the minimum number of voters, and in some cases, the same person has been repeatedly shown as a voter, deceiving others.

The NCP’s constitution lacks a constitutional framework, there is no transparency in funds, and there is practically no effective office at the district and upazila levels—all in all, it is nothing more than a paper party. Yet, conscious political circles are alleging that this party is repeatedly trying to gain a place in the political arena with the silent support of the government.

Parties agree on new proposal to appoint caretaker government chief, says Ali Riaz

Most political parties have reached a consensus on the revised proposal regarding the appointment of the caretaker government’s chief advisor, according to Ali Riaz.

However, the vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission did not provide any details of the revised proposal.

He said party representatives would discuss the matter within their party forums and provide final feedback.

The commission is expected to announce the collective stance on Tuesday.
