Fakhrul calls for speedy completion of election preparations

Along with thanking the chief advisor, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the Election Commission (EC) to quickly complete the election preparations and create an electoral environment.

He made this call at a discussion titled 'Role of Journalists in the Mass Uprising of Students and People' at the National Press Club auditorium on Thursday afternoon. It was jointly organized by the Federal Union of Journalists-BFUJ and Dhaka Union of Journalists-DUJ.

Fakhrul welcomes Yunus’ directive, hopes for prompt election preparations by EC

Thanking Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus for his fresh instruction on the national election, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday expressed the hope that the Election Commission will complete its election preparations promptly.

“I would like to thank Professor Dr Yunus from this programme as he has instructed the Election Commission to complete all the work by December. This is a very positive matter,” he said while speaking at a discussion, UNB reports.

“We hope that the Election Commission will complete this work very quickly and create an environment for the election,” the BNP leader added.

He said their party wants the Election Commission to work in such a way that it can present the nation with a free, fair, neutral and acceptable election. “We hope they will work in that way.”

Well obviously we all knew that February had been touted as an election date after the Yunus, BNP meeting in London, but this now confirms that February will definitely be the date, if not before…..

Personally I believe that because of all the cry’s from the political parties, business leaders, and due to the continued protests, rioting, killings and beatings, still going on in the country, Yunus has been forced into announcing this timeline today, and it still would not personally surprise me at all, if the EC can get everything needed completed sooner, Yunus will still be bring them forward further!

The 13th parliamentary elections may be held before Ramadan if all preparations, including necessary reforms, are completed, according to Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.

He made this statement during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in the capital on Wednesday (July 9) evening.

Alam stated that Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has directed law enforcement agencies to finalize all preparations for the 13th National Parliament elections by December. He emphasized that a reshuffle in field administration, including deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, officers-in-charge of police stations, and upazila nirbahi officers, has been ordered before the elections. This reshuffle will be conducted randomly.

Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammed were also present at the press conference.

According to Shafiul Alam, the Chief Adviser issued several key instructions, with the primary directive being to ensure all law and order preparations for the elections are completed by December.
