bnp plans to launch campaign demanding elections by february
the bnp is considering launching a nationwide campaign to press for general elections by february, in line with the chief adviser’s earlier pledge. party insiders say this strategy is aimed at mounting pressure on the interim government to expedite the electoral process.
according to reliable bnp sources, a preliminary outline for a three-month-long political programme has been drafted. it includes proposals for road marches, divisional rallies, and constituency-based processions.
these proposals were presented at an organisational meeting held last wednesday at the party’s central office in nayapaltan, dhaka. bnp’s acting chairman tarique rahman joined the meeting virtually.
recent government actions have raised doubts about the likelihood of elections being held by february. bnp policymakers suspect that certain quarters within the interim administration, along with some political groups, are conspiring to delay the polls.
in response, the party has decided to adopt a new political strategy centred on sustained campaigning to build public pressure.
bnp standing committee member ***eshwar chandra roy told kaler kantho, “some parties and factions appear indifferent towards the election. their reluctance, under the current transitional phase of democracy, clearly indicates a conspiracy. the people must resist these efforts, and bnp will stand by them.”
