RE: Parliamentary Question answer on Innova EUA7 Jul 2021 10:22
@Gr33ning68, @MrKiplingII, @Tzarr68...Something along these lines, perhaps?
In his answer the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care states that “Evaluation from Public Health England and the University of Oxford(1) have shown that the Innova lateral flow tests were shown to detect over 95% of individuals with high viral load or the most infectious cases”. Is the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care aware that the 95% figure he quotes was attained using spiked clinical samples with ideal concentrations under the less probing Phase 2 part of the evaluation by PHE / Oxford and that the more comprehensive Phase 4 ‘real world’ part of this same evaluation, where samples are collected from testing centres, shows that the sensitivity achieved by the Innova test was 57.5%, that is, it failed to identify 42.5% of the most infectious cases?
In his answer, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care quotes from the PHE / Oxford study(1) that is now 9 months old and states that “The Department continues to monitor the performance of the Innova lateral flow test”. Can the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care reveal what further evaluations have been carried out on the Innova test since this PHE / Oxford study and will he commit to publishing these updated evaluations? Finally, can the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care confirm that the continued monitoring of the performance of the Innova test has included an evaluation of the test against the highly prevalent Delta variant and what the relevant performance data is for the test against this variant.
