Darpins are a similar approach to affimers. Phase III study already complete with abicipar. Reached non-inferiority but had issue with intra-ocular inflammation. Reformulated but untested.

On upside fewer injections required - longer half life was engineered in. Can do this with affimers too.

Affimers would be 5 years out if we haven't started preclinical already. High risk and another one requiring partner so minimal impact on SP but another reason to keep watching.

I've made more then I lost in healthcare but I've had companies that fell over on the way - my winners take care of the losers - hence diversify my risk.

My take was that Avacta maintain rights to the binding reagents (affirmers). They can supply them to who they like.

However, LFD have more components that affect performance eg nitrocellulose strip, surfactant etc. They remain the property of Cytiva.

I suspect that Cytiva own the test albeit Avacta will benefit nicely.

However, I think Avacta will already be moving on an own label LFD (my guess via Abingdon) distributed through Medusa. Either that or the £48M will have bought a nice machine and some tooling.

Within ophthalmology these products account for clinics running everyday, a situation that could continue due to an aging population. There are other approaches on the way but remain unproven

Affimers are similar to therapeutic antibodies in their action. Leeds Uni already have affimers that bind to the specific receptor. This could be one of the unnamed projects ongoing - the preclinical animal models are all standardised.

I was looking to see how affirmers are removed from the body. Their basic structure is natural - already found in humans. The only concern is they are also present in the amyloid bodies associated with Alzheimer's but I'd need to do more reading on that

I like the board but note much of what I and others post is
Irrelevant to investment. If I created a resource site - subdivided by diagnostic, therapeutics would anyone be interested - facts not opinion type stuff.

Its like a charity and done for the benefit of mankind. Tend to support important initiatives to drive the science rather than the commercials
