I'm here because there are posters who fill in the gaps in my knowledge. I am weak in geology, accountancy, excel files, and oil extraction just for starters. Many posters have helped me because you cannot keep pressing IR and of course it can make you look like a pest, best saved for when necessary imo. I read posts and am happy when my knowledge increases or I think that's a good point, both negative and positive though as a holder I prefer positive, naturally.
I am not interested in positions or day trading stories because I had a lifetime of them and they are as interesting as me as hearing about your joint pains.
I have an eclectic background and I know some things in greater depth than many here as do they with me. I suspect that Juan and Monkey do too whilst L7 is like a Master Clockmaker who wants to know how it all works. They bring valuable insight along with several others (not so magnificent 7 for instance).
This transition is much misunderstood imo. Reports of the death of fossil fuels are greatly exaggerated (paraphrasing Mark Twain). On Monday I had an electrician in. The wiring is still copper covered in a product from oil and the LED lights have a lot of plastic in them too. I was involved for a while in trivia and misery a.k.a. property management around 2003. A 60's block I managed had started to have collapses in the ground that looked like possible subsidence and one of the first suspects is the drains but they weren't isolated. It looked like the whole system was suffering and not at all like the typical short lengths or inspection access collapses. The cause was pitch fibre drains which had the advantage of being cheaper and lighter than the vitrified clay used traditionally. They are basically cardboard and you know what happens when that gets wet (probably recycled as exterior cladding now) and their life was about 40 years. My point is that we are listening to people proposing better, cleaner and (eventually) cheaper ways of transport and heating. They would say that, wouldn't they but history is littered with their mistakes and the belief that NEW is always better. It often is but practically everything has an unforeseen consequence. Pitch fibre would have been an even bigger disaster if plastic drains hadn't arrived in the 70's. I have my suspicions about the Covid "experts" too. It is undeniably in their interest to keep it going whilst our current Prime Minister make it look like Donald Trump is the one with integrity.
I'm not sure of anything any longer as the "spin" or "change the narrative" becomes a manipulated headline. On last nights 6 o'clock news the headlines were:
1. Grenfell
2. Storm Barra
3. Facebook Metaverse
today it is about the Government's bare-faced lying. I'm gonna stick with my amateur anthropology and the knowledge that nothing written here will have any impact at all on our investment.
