Interesting that most of you seem to think the US is not a good place to invest right now, well you might be right of course, but the UK investments are not doing too well at the moment are they guys? Labour haven't exactly restored much confidence for investing solely in the UK, and the shorter's seem to agree, especially with house builders, the very thing they were hoping to expand on, not going to plan for Rachel, let's hope there's not more tax raids to come

We must remember that everyone's circumstances are different, for anyone wanting to build a position here they will be quite happy with the low sp, for myself this is already the largest of my UK dividend shares, so i'm not wanting to add anymore apart from reinvesting dividends when the price is low, but if i'm being honest the share price here has been very disappointing over the last few years, still think it's a rewarding investment though, but definitely would like to see the share price rising again, let's see where we are by April

As for international funds v UK shares, yes the funds may drop back a bit, but which will give the best return over the next 5 years, i think the answer is nobody really knows, so i'm happy to have a mix of both in my portfolio, I think most financial advisors would advise to have a diversified portfolio

For those of you that remember, a couple of times in the past we watched this dropping down to a £1 by Xmas, then we watched it climbing back up to 140 in the new year, not expecting those prices anytime soon, but it would be good to see this gaining 40p again

I'm not suggesting anyone sells up their UK shares, but definitely think funds are a great way to diversify a portfolio, but if you feel you can get a better return just with a few UK shares then best of luck to you

I don't know how well funds will perform over the next 5 years, but i don't know how well my UK shares will perform either, including Vodafone

If only investing was that easy that we knew exactly which shares/ funds/countries were going to give us the best returns over the next few years

But why would you want to bet all of your hard earned cash on UK only shares, a simple low cost global tracker such as Legal & general international index fund is a really easy way to to diversify your portfolio, alongside your UK dividend shares, there are some good opportunity's in the UK, but it just doesn't make sense to me to to risk all your money in one small market

I have to agree with you Mole & unlucky, i will be be continuing to increase my US/international funds and reducing my exposure to UK shares, It's becoming more difficult to make a decent return from UK shares which is a shame, you get handed dividends in one hand at the cost of a reducing capital due to the share prices dropping each year, my US funds have returned a growth of around 80% over the last 5 years compared to my UK funds with a growth of around 35%

It's not all bad of course i am getting a decent dividend from most of my UK shares and providing the share prices increase again it will have been worth while, but an increasing share price is never guaranteed as we have experienced from Vodafone over the last 5-10 years, but let's hope the recent changes will improve Vodafone's profits and share price in the coming years

Timing is Key gutter, so I've been told, both my Tayler Wimpey and persimmon shares were showing a decent profit until the budget then they went over the cliffs edge, so it looks like my timing belt has jumped a few teeth on the sprockets, i'm very good at picking losing shares though, so not all bad lol

I Don't know about the rest of you, but all of my UK shares have been dropping every week since the Labour budget, especially house builders, i hope we will see an improvement in 2025

Well i'm sure a lot of that is true, it's well known that the UK is a soft touch for Immigrants and sending money overseas, but don't look after their hard working pensioners so well as other European countries, it would be good to have a comparison though, between what exactly we are giving the immigrant's compared to France, and make it public, I suspect it's a big difference for them to risk their own and Family's lives to come here

back to Lloyds, i don't post on this board very often although I've been invested in Lloyds since 2014, still hoping for 65p from this share, let's hope 2025 is a more rewarding year for us all

The immigrants should be interviewed by the press, to find out exactly why they are risking their lives crossing the channel from a safe country France to the UK and make it public knowledge what we are offering them that France is not, until those incentives have been removed they will keep coming

Jesteh, Don't worry i'm just pulling your leg, I don't think there's much risk buying at these low prices, and the price i'm hoping for to get out with a big of dignity is a lot higher, so let's hope this share will start to be a bit kinder to us in the new year, just be careful though as this has not changed direction yet
