Hi Soton, as you know most shares have been dropping the last few days due to Trumps trade war, so thought i would take advantage of the situation and lower my average here, it all helps with the dividend income yield, and with this going exdiv soon it seemed like a good opportunity, hopefully better times ahead for our shares

Lti, I guess the big question with this one, is how rewarding will this share will be for investors in the coming years, the buybacks alone will not make a huge difference, the company will also have to improve on it's profitability to get a substantial increase in the share price, and how will the total returns from this share compare with other investments on the market, but i guess it's not worth selling this at a loss while all this is going on, but let's hope it turns out to be more rewarding than it's been in the past

This has to be the most consistent share ever, it never ever fails to disappoint, whenever you start thinking it can't get any worse it does

I will probably have to donate these shares to my grandchildren, I can't see them ever making a profit in my lifetime

LTI, we both know very well how bad this has performed in the last 5 years or more, what we don't know is how it will perform in the next 5 years, so absolutely it's up to everyone to make there own decisions

LTI, I'm just hoping the t/a and upcoming results are good enough to restore confidence in this share, and push up the share price as high as possible and as soon as possible, but if others are looking at the benefits of buybacks in the future and choosing this share as a long term investment, then good luck to them

Buyback, it depends on whether you want your jam tomorrow or maybe a possibility of jam in the future

Well this hit 2.40 before exdiv last year and it looks like it's on target to get there again, depending of course on what's going on in the World with Trump stirring up a trade war, there's been no shortage of take over rumours here in the past which has bumped the price up at the time, anything is possible of course

Good Morning Phyl, well i remember having the same discussion around the same last year, and i think you had a lot lower average than myself and decided to hold, if you remember i did sell off half of my shares before exdiv, i then bought a few batches back around the 220s so i got lucky last year as it did work to my benefit, but as we all know it doesn't always pay off, not sure if i will do the same this year it depends on how high the share price will rise before exdiv, unlike my my Aviva shares where the share price has been increasing over the last few years lgen seems to be more cyclical , but fully agree this is a great share for retirement income and it will remain the largest share in my portfolio

What's happening here guys, the share price has risen beyond expectations so soon before exdix, I'm so pleased to be showing a decent profit here again, but the board has been taken over by armchair politicians who seem to think they can run the country better than any government zzzzz

Jesteh, I agree with that, ongoing high infrastructure costs and in a very very competitive market, but for anyone investing in the stock market, you want the best return for your investment, the dividend has been cut in half, with a yield that's only a little higher than you can get in a bank account with guaranteed no loss of capital, so we really do need to see an increasing share price here to make it worthwhile, so let's hope the T/A and upcoming results can give this a kick start

the share price is very low here at the moment, so hopefully there's a good chance for some growth

Garonne, I do hope so, the problem is I'm watching all my other shares growing and Vodafone seems to have been excluded from the Bull run once again, also another interest cut predicted for February, we need something to jump start this share

Hi Gary, well (it's not unusual ) for the insurers to rise at this time of year approaching exdiv, just thought i would add a bit of Tom Jones in here lol

mng hit £2.40 last year, can it get to £2.50 this year, and if so would it be better to take the dividend and profit early before exdiv as this share usually drops a lot more than the div, that will be something to think about at the time

Dan, i refuse to surrender to this share, so it will have to return my money to me at some point, going on the law of averages it's well overdue to change direction, it can be very frustrating sometimes, a bit like Mikey and yourself perhaps?

Mikeyh68, this is a free speech forum always remember that, you can post whatever opinion you like here, negative/positive or otherwise, you don't even need to have shares here, it wouldn't be a forum if everyone had the same opinions, there's nothing wrong with a bit of banter but don't take it personal guys

back to Vodafone, this is the worst share i have ever invested in, but I'm still hoping it can improve and i can recover some of my losses here, so fingers crossed the upcoming T/A and results will be good, buybacks can be good, but it needs to be backed with increasing profit's, take a look at how well Aviva have done, not sure how much the buybacks contributed to that though
