Thronegames, Absolutely, last April exdiv was on the25th April, dividend amount was 14.63p, on the 23rd April share price was a high of 256.23 it then dropped down 229 by June and dropped to 215 by 5th Aug

March/April is the best time to make your own decisions whether you want to take profit before exdiv and buy back at a later time at reduced price, or hold

I have said many times that the share price has been disappointing here, consider this was over £3 a few years ago, especially when i compare it to my Aviva shares over the same period, but still it's a good reliable dividend payer and hopefully the share price will improve

Good evening Dan, i wish i had a magic wand i could wave over this one, it's very frustrating watching it dropping down all the time, it's looks like we will have to be patient for quite a while longer, let's hope we have some good news to give it a boost, i will be keeping my fingers crossed that the next results will be better than expected

I hope this doesn't start off another buyback war, but my understanding of it, is if the share price increases after the buybacks, let's say due to good results etc, then it's a win win as we will also benefit from the buybacks and of course less dividends to pay out on fewer shares, but unless the share price rises after then there's very little benefit, it's not always as good as some like to think it is, so let's hope the upcoming results impress and start pushing this up

Hello strictly, thanks for your insight into house builders, i know that's an area you have a lot of experience in, i'm already quite heavy in insurers aviva/mng/phnx/lgen, but also have some shares in psn and tw, hopefully they will come good again and it turns out to be a profitable year for us all

Hello ARMANI, No i apologise for any confusion it wasn't meant for yourself, I guess it was a general comment on DividendNomad's post, just saying I get a much better feeling looking at shares such as Aviva which is showing a capital profit as well as paying out a decent dividend than i get from some others with capital erosion, unless of course your looking to buy in

Hello strictlybricks, I would like to thank you for you're informative reply, i think iv'e mentioned this to you before that concentrating on 3 insurers alone as your portfolio would send a shiver down my spine , but that's not saying it won't be very rewarding, also some might say now may be a good time for buying house builders shares while the prices appear to be rock bottom, time will tell on that one, but i wish you the very best of luck with your investments

Some very wise words from Gary59, i'm a few years older than him and recently retired, but you would never say so by looking at us lol, i have the following dividend shares for income, some are long term holds and some i play around with

mng/aviv/lgen/vod/lloy/psn/tw/phnx which make up 50% of my portfolio the other 50% is in international low cost tracker funds

If your already invested in a share, then surely you want the sp to rise as well as the dividend, if for instance you get 10% dividend and lose 10% of your capital each time then what have you gained ?, the only time having a dropping sp is to your advantage is if your topping up or reinvesting dividends, short term a dropping sp is not a problem providing it rises again, but that doesn't always happen

Hello strictlybricks, if you don't mind me saying, it seems a very strange time from you to have sold off your lgen shares, i can only see this going in one direction between now and exdiv and that's up, therefore you will lose out on the growth and the dividend, i expect you have your reasons for doing so ?

Not much point in having a good dividend if you're losing your capital guys, I'm hoping this will rise a bit higher next month so I can get out with a small loss, just my opinion, we all want to get the best return for our investments

Newbie642, now that Vodafone have merged with 3, i would think a take over is very unlikely

Some very amusing posts today though, apparently the drop in the share price is no longer the fault of Nick reed or Margherita Della Valle, it's now all Trumps fault, even though most other shares have been rising ?

I think Trump and his buddy Elon are vile creatures, but let's hope having a strong leader will put an end to some of the wars and not create a new ones

I think you can just toss a coin at the moment, heads it goes up tails down, an interest drop next month and spring not far away we might see house builders making gains, just trying to be positive

Providing there's no nasty surprises i can see this reaching £5.50 by exdiv, not sure what effect buying dlg will have here in the future, let's hope it turns out to be beneficial for share holders

Well everyone's circumstances are different, for myself this is already my largest share holding, so don't need to add anymore, therefore the rise is the share price is most welcome, and hopefully we will see this back to £2.50 plus by April, i'm not sure if i will sell some or hold, probably hold, but it's nice to have that option, if you have no loss in capital then you know you've had the full benefit from the dividends
