A rise in interest rates doesn't dampen world prices which is what's driving inflation. It only causes more pain for borrowers. Central govts' main interest is always to support banks.

The sp was higher than it is today in June 09.
The dividend is paltry.
Why does anyone invest in banks?
The rise in interest rates makes no sense as consumers aren't driving inflation. All the drivers are external.
So it's govt policy aimed at helping banks .

dan there is a pretty reliable and up and down pattern with Vod, similar to others I own like KLR.
I must confess to being impatient and not capitalising enough on that. Also when the market is moving up there is a natural urge to add to positions. That always seems to cause a reversal like the market is waiting for me to do that.
So my new resolution is always to wait. As sure as anything Vod will be back to 110 ish. As sure as anything it'll then be talked up again.

There seems to be around a year spacing between it touching the 140 mark.
Looking back I can't really see what drove it up.
Also it seems to drop back by at least the div amount. With the right timing it would seem better to buy low and sell high, waiting the requisite number of months for bad days in which to buy.
So despite the reliability, the div really seems worthless unless you are a long term passive investor.

Seriously though, despite it appearing manipulated to hell, the financial metrics appear quite positive for vodafone e.g. EPS and profit per share up. Cash in hand at the bank is up. Can't get a handle on the debt situation though, that is I don't understand it.
The normal conundrum at the mo is whether to sell before ex-Div.

Don't worry it'll start falling again tomorrow. A VOD sp gain can never be sustained.

Perhaps it's now falling in sympathy with SFOR. Either that or the bot that runs round clobbering everything I invest in has now reached NFC.
