When asked what holds VR back, all industry analysts point to a lack of quality content. I think the soft Go launch is about developing content whilst it's still with early adopters who will use it. Once it hits the masses content is well developed and has momentum. This fits with the Christmas theory, 6 months of content development before a mass market campaign.
Interesting to read theories about Melody waiting for the Santa Cruz to launch before a live concert, this plus getting more headsets in circulation makes a lot of sense.
For me this first few months is all about proving the tech and the business models. Personally, I'm not too concerns about the revenue numbers, I don't expect much as it's not been launched fully yet, the cash burn is more interesting.
