While I agree with porsche, I would not bail out now because the general market is bad anyway. I still think AV. is one of the safer buys around and the dividends should be worth it until we get out of this mess. Like Robespierre said 'democracy is not for the masses because they don't know what they are voting for'.

Nevertheless, the stock is trending upwards and, for me at least, the down days are a buying opportunity.

Oil Price says 'Oil prices are on course to climb 10 percent this week as Hurricane Delta shuts over 90% production in the Gulf of Mexico, leading some analysts to claim oil is set for a breakout'. I am optomistic we have seen a low for BP.

I think you are close. This is what we need to break that elusive £3 barrier but the general market is not that great either. Maybe some good Brexit news will do it if there is such a thing as good Brexit news these days.

The good news is that it is trading at the top end of its past 7 month trading range. I think we may need some (good) news to break that £3 barrier. I think with a good Santa Claus rally, Brilltrader will get his £3.29 by Christmas and possibly more.

A RI is no guarantee that the price will set the lowest share price value. Look what happened to Keir Group and more recently Rolls Royce in the past few days. With both, the share price went well below the RI price.

I made an online order from Homebase (now part of Sainsbury) and have been trying to get it corrected for over a month due to incorrectly sent items, confusion. If you read the reviews for their online service, there are abismal. If they cannot succeed in this area then they are in big trouble. You don't need an expert to tell you this.

Dividends to be paid this week. Great time to reinvest.

All of these oil shares can languish for ages and then they suddenly go up. Just keep reinvesting the dividends.

Bananaman, I would not disagree with you. The World will always need various forms of energy and I am sure BP are looking at all of the options. It is still a solid company but needs time to adapt. Hopefully, we will keep getting dividends which we can reinvest.

Let's face it, this is a company in transition during bad economic times with no doubt worse to come. The best thing to do with this share is put it on the back burner for a couple of years, reinvest the dividends and look at something else for making money. In the interim, I would not be surprised to see the share price drop much further.

Like I mentioned, I have given up on individual shares, you never know what is happening inside these companies. Apart from the shares I mentioned earlier that have tanked, look at what has happened to Rolls Royce recently and the brokers are a joke with their predictions.

Some interesting points here from Goldman-Sachs on oil demand. From an investment standpoint, it looks like we will have to be patient but that could apply to many other sectors:

I think what Bigbad has said applies to a lot of companies regarding the tree shake. What sort of shakeout are we going to get when the second quarter results start filtering through? Is the bad news factored in or not and are we in the recovery stage? Is best to sit on the sidelines and see how it all pans out? As mentioned, the end of the year could look very different one way or another.

This is just moving up and down with the FTSE. Nothing clever that Aviva are doing. We may as well all buy a FTSE tracker and avoid the stamp duty at the same time.

I don't think £5.50 is late at all. It is a very good price. I am averaged in much higher but I just keep investing my dividends at the lower rate until it comes back.

If you are in at £5.15 then you have nothing to worry about. I doubt we will see those days again. Let's just hope the dividends return to normal once we are through all of this.

Along with Blackrock, Vanguard is also a good company and I split my investments between IUKD , ISF, and VUKE. I gave up on individual shares a while back. No matter how much research you do, you never know who is lying or hiding something.

For example, look at Kier Group (KIE), Petrofac (PFC), Metro Bank (MTRO, Carillion, Aston Martin (AML), etc. The list goes on. I held a few of those and managed to get out before I lost my shirt. I am not saying IUKD is perfect but at least you can almost guarantee some dividends during the down days which you can reinvest.

Yes, I also use this to keep most of my money in. Don't overlook the fact that it can also be quite volatile so I keep an amount that I day trade on. Very few would regard this as a day trading stock but it works for me. Plus you have no dreaded stamp duty to eat away at your profits.

It is a well-managed and sometimes overlooked fund by what is now the largest investment company in the World. And, as you point out, given past prices, I would only expect it to rise from here in the medium to long term.
