Indeed crumbs - I'm sure Redmile would have spent a long time looking at a prolonged history of self indulgent directors milking the company for all it was worth and then deciding that of all the promising bios in the USA, Asia, Europe and elsewhere, they would pitch tens of millions at an insignificant bunch of freeloaders and see if that transformed them into a dynamic and innovative setup. Is that approach really what makes Redmile a massive and respected company? How very odd if that were so.

Probably picked up that baton from another long term investor who talked long and loud about 'lifestyle company' while professing to hold a decent holding. Very paradoxical.

To have bought at the top of a spike would have required acting in a far narrower window of opportunity than buying into any of the placings. To have missed all of them would have meant either no wish to invest further, or an ineptitude or personal situation that would make AIM the most unsuitable place to be contemplating investing.

My thought exactly. We just have to keep waiting (a familiar scenario!) but the gravity of covid and its mutations along with the economic pressure to find a means of getting ahead of the virus makes me happy to sit it out - as with others, I'm hoping for a significant update soon.

The delivery system has been much discussed, but would they start making litres of covidity vaccine if there was no idea of how to deliver it?

Just because SCLP is mentioned by CEPI doesn't absolutely guarantee a close link, but looking at it from the other direction - imagine if it were not Scancell but some other company whose name appeared in that tweet and link. There would be grounds for pessimism, but as it IS Scancell mentioned and linked on all occasions, I think it understandable to be reasonably optimistic.

'Initiate' imo means to take to a point where it is ready to launch - at that point it can be reassessed to see if it is worth taking forward, rather than committing to fund a full phase 1 when the any number of things could have changed prior to that point. Of course just because you are able to Initiate the trial doesn't automatically mean more money will be forthcoming for it - it depends how promising it looks and what any rivals have achieved. In July last year nobody knew of the Kent and South African variants, and the first generation vaccines weren't up and running, so a lot has changed since the 2.7 million was awarded but it's reasonable to believe that the urgency for a second generation vaccine is as strong as ever.

Re the Innovate funding, it was was on 27th August 2020 and the RNS said 'The funding will be used to initiate a Phase 1 clinical trial ("COVIDITY") during 2021.'
The question is what does 'initiate' mean? Certainly a lot less than 'complete', but is it only as far as 'prepare for start of'?
All interpretations welcome - hope we don't have to wait long to find out.

Redmile RNS was 22nd July 2020, so I imagine they will have started talks a long time ago and also seen the covid developments come along and stayed invested and of course there was their second round of investing a couple of months later - covid bonus perhaps? Any way up they've gone in with eyes wide open and big.

Scancell have repeatedly mentioned seeking 'non-dilutive funding', so I can't see anyone from Vulpes or Redmile having issues with CEPI, UK government or similar putting up funds.
