Dan so everyone is aware Debs was founded on Wholesale or as you like to call it reseller , for th record Asos and Arcadia have Wholesale depts, Arcadia show Asos (or did ) there Brands to Asos Wholesale and Asos buy and mark up and sell normally 2.2 .
So Dan give me your top 5 Brands to put on Debs market place, not going to judge you btw, just give me you top 5. you would like on market place regardless of demo grpahic.

Dan Lindsay this is why i do not debate with you , no point, you've flipped on the margin issue, you argued it till you were blue in the face that own buy was the only show in town.
I laid out the 4 Asos revenue streams in black and white, you said that JL agrees with Dan , why is this is always about Dan Lindsay which you constantly try and do, for some reason you constantly require conformation, recognition, and adoration, why?
You have once again missed the point and have continued to do so, this is not about Asos V Boo Hoo this is about the effort required for BH now, they don't want to go wholesale then fine, i get it (JL agrees with Dan!!) , lets not forget they did until they got thrown out (JL didnt agree with Dan)
So they go for other two routes that are the part of the most successful revenue streams for Asos , Own Buy and Market Place (JL agrees with Dan but Dan didnt agree but now Dan does agree with JL) 2 out of the 4 that Asos already have., what's your point ?? Asos already have a market place and BH will also now have Own Buy or Market Place.
I also happen to think that BH will bring in Brands to stock , what happens if there is a Brand they really want but doesnt like the Market Place model LEVIS big brand in Debs , only choice is for Debs to buy wholesale and stock , i think someitmes that you look too black and white , this is fashion , not one model fits all which is why Next, Very and Asos operate the way they do, your saying Debs wont !!

Back to my point either way herculean job !!!! As you point out BH and PLT also have to grow x 6 its why they were in Dubai in the middle of a PANDEMIC !!! they face big headwinds in sourcing let alone systems and people.
FFS, i get plug ins you dont have to be a Brain Surgeon , you dont get them , you cant flick a switch , Asos 900 boutiques thats 900 boutiques not 900 lines 900 boutiques , have you any idea how many lines this is in each Boutique , how many models alone that takes to put on and photograph , even a flat pic takes ages to get right, Asos has 6 studios inc vidos and catwalks in 4 of them, they even work at night during peak , again they have the infrastructure,

I could go on but whats the point, i'm in on these shares Dan Lindsay of Warrington not because i think the model will be The Hut but because i think the model will be own buy and market place but more own buy, i believe they have the Brands to do it and they have a extremely wide demographic now to achieve on CLOTHING a real threat to Next.

Still not clear whether they will sell TVS, Towels, Microwaves etc etc etc perhaps you can help on this?

JD Sports to buy US retailer DTLR
JD Sports Fashion has entered into a conditional agreement to buy US sportswear and footwear retailer DTLR for $495m (£360m).
Based in Baltimore, Maryland, and currently majority owned by private equity companies BRS & Co and Goode Capital, DTLR was founded in 1982 and operates from 247 stores across 19 states in the north and east of the US.

Originally named Downtown Locker Room, the company rebranded as DTLR and, in 2017, merged with Sneaker Villa.

The purchase is subject to regulatory procedures, and is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2021.

The $495m (£360m) acquisition will be funded from JD Sports’ cash resources and existing bank facilities. Around $100m (£73m) will be used to repay debts owed by DTLR.
In the 52 weeks ended 1 February 2020, DTLR delivered an EBITDA of $45.6m (£33.2m) and a profit before tax of $1.6m (£1.2m). The gross assets in the DTLR balance sheet at 1 February 2020 were $293.7m (£214m).

I believe the only rev stream you liked was own buy as it gave great GM%, you said it was a flaw that Asos had wholesale and market place as it reduced margins and BH own buy was only way forward as it protected those margins so why have you done a 180 degree flip on this, by adopting a predominant market place model you've just destroyed your GM you coveted so dearly ?
As i said all rev models are good for me, what i said was JL would give his right arm for the spread of demo graphic that all Asos Rev stream brings onto the site, it brings a very wide audience and the numbers of sales it generates on each SKU runs into the 1000's , this is what JL would give his right arm for and he knew this and has fixed this with Debs and Arcadia purchases.

However the whole point of this thread was that they have a herculean effort for the reasons i mentioned that you disagreed, if you agree with own buy on clothing being by far the biggest part of offer and protecting margins then i'll say it again, its not a plug in its a massive task not to be underestimated , 4 months will no where near cut it with existing suppliers , not a chance, they even went to Dubai in middle of Covid looking for new suppliers and this was before these purchases, Covid is still here and no one is travelling, yes you do have to travel, its very very hard to do this on a teams call, i know because i'm having to do it and buyers are desperate to get out to factorys and see fabrics , washes etc etc etc stuff that most people have no clue about, its vital, Simon Wolfson recently gave a interview re this and he is 100% correct.
I've given you the 4 rev streams in language that all can u/s , please tell me which of these you believe will be successful and adopted by BH/Debs , i'm sure we agree own buy and market place, i think they will also bring in brands under wholesale stock and full fill, so 3 out of 4 good for me but own buy needs to be significant.

Currenty Asos has 900 Clothing Brands on market place from 20 different countries, they have full design sourcing, logistics factory set up, and very advanced CSR and sustainability in place as well as garment techs etc etc etc etc
Debs no market place , no indie brands, none of the above
Debs has a ton of own buy Brands , however no buying teams, no factory's , dregs of stock left
Arcadia Brands more so but still i would say at about 50% of what it was.
The London Brands , still relatively in there infancy, really need to get going, havent really proved much yet.

So yes my point is once again they have a herculean task and yes they will get there but min one year to really start seeing any major effects to compete with likes of Next who I BELIEVE will be there biggest competitor on clothing.

Clothing aside out of interest do we know if Debs offer is still going to be Electricals and Kitchenwear, Bed Linen, Sports Equipment etc etc so basically is it going to do a John Lewis on these items or a Amazon?

Dan i know your not saying osh kosh but i'm afraid you could have put any brand i there, its not whether BH wants it on there its whether the Brand owner whats it on there and whter the customer wants to buy it from there or the Brands own website, the Kamani's head is now well above the parapet on Debs and its association and if its on another site then whether it will even be allowed, after all it's not called Discount Debs for nothing.
As for customer , Glam Girl didn't give a s**t about slavery etc but Middle England just might.

As you know provide it protects the Brand i'm for all revenue streams, for Asos people on this board make like to know how this is made up, i'm sure you can provide %
1)Own Brands, designed sourced and bought and stocked by in house teams of which there are many , stock full filled by asos
2)As above but now included Topshop/Topman/Miss S which in house teams will now design source stock and full fill , in addition it appears that it will also contine to be wholesale and Asos will continue the partnership with Nordstrom Rack, who will buy stock and full fill themselves.
3)Branded buy, bought by Asos in house teams from well known Brands , stock and full filled by Asos
4)Market Place , Asos version of your intended Debs platform, 900 Independent boutiques from 50 different countries, designed sourced and full filled independently.

So again i take you back to the point of my original email , if you think the majority of the Debs offer is going to be own buy then great we agree , where we diverge is whether they have everything in place to maximise, i say they don't, they will but at mo they are not hitting the ground running with any of the Debs Brands, Arcadia more so , but half the suppliers to DPs have gone bust owed thousands so again not as straight forward as you think.
Debs has been destroyed bit of stock , handful members of staff left, yes they have a platform.

So again to sum up, I say BH have herculean task ahead of them, Asos much less so due to wholesale buys Topshop/Topman/Miss S already integrated already. Will BH get there, yes of course but hell of mountain to climb.

Dan , Osh Kosh , this is the problem you assume Vlothing Brands woll flock to Debs Marketplace , they wont, poor ones will probably bite there arm off but good ones either wont be allowed OR more to the point wont want to be tainted with all the baggage it brings being associated with BH . In clothing its not as simple as you think , yhese brands are owned personally and peolle care about what they put there name to get it wrong it destroy your brand.

So i take you back to the whole point of my mail, Debs is destroyed in terms of all points i mentioned , its a herculean task to get these brands and systems, people up and running to produce , yes the 1000 of skus that will be needed, this is not BH or PLT anymore , its a massive change.
Burtons, DPs etc less so but they have to intergrate all the systems and people and logistics, if you dont think this is an issue rhen no problem , i think it is.
Market Place is fine for a microwave or lipstick for clothing its not , its why Amazon have chucked a ton if money at own buy to try increae margins but found out how hard it is, the guy heading up is ex Burtons and Primark and even he is struggling , own buy as you know is key for margins, you your self have said it, these own buy brands will run into 1000s of skus.

Other point to consider is whilst of like Asos these Brands can go on Debs market place, albeit and where we diverge, i believe in a much smaller way to own buy , its whether they actyally want to as Debs is seen as bargain basement and they wont want to tainted and also Asos swept up most of the good ones and wont allow it, either them or us.

Dan, so on clothing you think Debs going head to head with Amazon , more so than Next.
I of course get thd model and you think that on Clothing having bought all these brands the majority of clotbing will come from another party pmacing there ranges on the market place and the brands they bought will not need to be offered and sourced in the way i mentioned because they wont make up most of the offer on clothing,
If so ok, agrre to disagree, its not in JL Kamani DNA to do this , sure other areas its makes sense , not clothing when they have just splaseh a ton of cash.

90% of Debs buying teams have gone along with most of the stock, countlees cva and 2 administration and a liquidation , its a re build , at mo they struggle to source 100pcs for Karen Millen, they have a moutain of work to do.

For Beauty of courseclooks like partenerships , as they have very little experience so margins will be less.
This is not the modrl on clothing the current BH brand sources are nowhere near enougb, 80 % of Debs clothing was sourced from Bangladesh , this is not the BH model.
So yes thosands of SKUs for the many many own buy brands need to be filled

Great news for Asos in securing for 265m, TM/TS already has a strong presence at NS and to also have them retained on board os a massive bonus. Not sure why title is got the rest, looks like BH will hopefully bag the rest.

Marketplace a given, no issue, as you remember i mentionex this is a strenght of Asos as it brings in new audiences. It will howver need a wholesale team to run it, and a photography team to get it all the SKUs's looking good.

What i can see but most on here cant is that thd coener shop had say 1000 SKUs but Debs will have 200,000 plus SKUs . Partenship teams what does that actually mean ? I can tell you that just for buying an in house brand on say Jeans alone you have a buyer, a buying assisrant , a buying admin assitant a Garment Tech , a Mechandiser , Assistant Merchandiser, a Designer a Assitant Designer, now times this by all the different product areas then timez it by Womans which has more Brands and more product areas , then times by kidswear , this is just fof Clothing. Its how Next, Asos, Aracadia, Zara and Debenhams usec to work. So they have a massive massive task ahead . This is without even ramping up at Marketing, and Logistics , two weeks ago before this they were in Dubai looking for manufacturers to come to a Brand conference as they needed increased overseas production they hadnt bought Debs at time let alone Arcadia Brands. So in my view they have a herculean task , but if they get it right they can overtake Next. You cant scale without people, systems , supply , logistics, design, this is where thd concentration needs to be for next 6 months so comd Christmas these Brands can actually be in stock to challenge there peers and add the value against the investment that makes the markets wakeup and realise how massivevthe true potential is

I see what has been going on behind the scenes, not saying blow all the cash. Ive worked with Asos since concept when they were a small company with an office off the Strand in London, i saw them move in Greater London House in Mornington Cresent and think it was too big, it was at time, now they have pretty much taken up whole building BUT its not been withoyt issues any growing pains BH have a massive opportunity , forget Asos think they can take on and beat Next. In my view they have all thd foudations in place but they need to invest in right areas to build a site and Brsnd offer that people tbink ticks all the boxes for them personally, they have to pick the right media right celeb to do this for each demo . Every single penny they spend has to justify itself by bringing in results in terms of sales and therfore value. Get the Brands they gave which are now many and stick a rocket up there a*se . Tbh honest not been that impreesed with what they have done witn London Brands , now they have much bigger demo to gun for, full concentration should now be putting in all the structure as it takes 6 months min to start putting yoyr stamp on the ranges and those ranges all of a sudden span many brands and many diff buying departments from socks, pants, shirts formal and casual, trousers formal and casual , jeans, knitwear, jersey , outerwear , loungewear , activewear , shorts and this us just on mens , add womans which has more departments and kids , oh and shoes itmay give you an idea of the task ahead. All of this needs compliant capacity, merchandisers , imports , QA, and not least a massive massive photography studio, in some ways be careful what you wish for!! In terms of offer this company has gone from a corner shop to a superstore Asda in 10 days.

Why are people going on about buying more Brands, bloody hell gone from Chavvy Bling Flexy Glamour Girls and Boys to Middle England in 10 Days. Need to just get buying , promoting , marketing and flogging some frigging gear.
