Danman, i think you need to widen your u/s of Debs and the BH Group, they bought Debs for many reasons one of the main reasons was to inherit a myriad of own buy Brands to add to the stable, they now have a horse for every course, this is fundamental, your wrong about the money, the recruitment is across many areas and there is big focus on design and buying, BH (Manc) and PLT are already well honed.
All the Debs in house Brands are now seeking to increase their teams, Asos currently looking to rationalise TM/TS/Miss teams and strip them back to the core and re build, big shift of these people are already moving across to BH Group (London), many were already being head hunted as Mitch knows most of the TM/TS teams as does JL. Your fixation with fast fashion (which as you know i supply btw) is fine for old BH (Mancs) but the Debs Brands do not need this, prices are higher, quality is better and generally lead times do not need to be anywhere near as fast. Marketplace will be and is a mix of Brands that will be happy to fill inventory/take direct returns etc and the better more well known ones that will not, so therefore have to be bought in, old argument that you lost but as always you then go on to say well that maybe but it's tiny, only Wrangler (few pairs lol , any idea how many they sell of there basic core jean???? ) I'm sure that the more niche brands will be many but the these anchor Brands sell thousands of pairs, like the niche Brands some anchor Brands will come and go, it will never be one size fits all.
Margin drivers will be all the own buy Brands, the depth of these is pretty impressive, from babywear, kids, young fashion, towny, indie, 30,40, 50, 60 something, i've not even gone into the nuances of each of these own buy Brands and what they bring to the offer but they cross all prices points and fast fashion to slow fashion.
Chuck in Market Place and Beauty and a money to recruit and push them into the limelight to be able to maximise all areas then it's pretty mind blowing long term were they could end up. Gaining traction on Debs Brands, MP , Beauty and keep pushing forward on BH/PLT in US is obvs the goal.
