Hi Garydav2 I am very sorry you lost out at Carillion. Given the consequences for the public sector their directors have been called before select committees to explain their actions. I did look at the company and a former lse poster lego who was a holder was very candid (a very rare thing on these bbs) with me about the company and I had a look for myself at their performance re, contracts and decided it was not for me but I didn't post on the company's bb.

From what I know of professional shorters, they do not reduce their positions if they feel they have more to gain. Morgans have pulled out here or at the very least have reduced to below the notifiable level of .5%. and others are reducing. In the markets, rumours and press comment particularly in the FT can cause shares both to fall and rise in the short term but longer term it's the facts that are important. I am glad you have not let one bad experience put you off investing and hope you find something with which you feel comfortable and from which you can prosper. PS I also held thorntons and traded it long only from time to time and was pretty satisfied with the outcome. Wishing you all the very best.

Garydave, I wasn't ever invested in Carillion but I have been in companies like pmo and kaz when posters were in no doubt whatsoever that pmo at 19p had had it and kaz at 60p or something would be nationalised by the state. I have even been forcefully told on bbs that spd was going to be taken private by Mike Ashley for £2 or cheaper only last year and it is now worth more than double that. Have no idea why deb's owned a printing company but it is up for sale and it has assets overseas which could be sold if profits drop further by which time lots of HOF stores will be closed. I don't see clothes, make up and household goods as becoming obsolete like cds, video games, tweed skirts to a degree and trainers replacing plimsoles and woollies plastic sandals. GLA
