Bank rates as a comparison for housing arent really comparable going back to the 70s/pre 2008 (ish) as house prices have massively increased and wages havent kept up with loan to value multiples, so current values / ratio comparisons are completely out of context. Circa 2.5-3.5 multiples previously, but higher interest rates, lower interest rates now but mortgage lending multiples approaching x6 for some high rate schemes, plus now most mortgages are done with a second income rather than, historically a single income mortgage
