A really, really bad flu season would see about 20k deaths.
New variant is again more transmissible early to say but indications are that hospital admissions are again rising, thus time effecting younger people, deaths rising too.
Vaccines look like they are working so far but not 100%.
On the ground testing showing steady increase again. I fear this is just going to be rinse and repeat AGAIN.
This time it will be the unvaccinated hardest hit.
Delta plus looks like its more resistant to the vaccine. We are not getting out of this for a long time. Call it hyperbole but I'm not sure now if I'll see a return to our previous pre covid life in my remaining life.
Its now with us permanently unless it mutates its way to be harmless, which is possible. On a brighter note quick accurate testing will be key from here on out.

I can only assume the gov still has millions of these tests in stock and rather than lose face and admit a mistake they are carrying on regardless until they have gone at the expense of the population.

@soder, quite, all the cash projections on here worry me, the company doesn't operate with no operational costs, we've seen a huge increase in workforce loads of R&D not to mention production costs, so really we have no idea what cash in bank will be, it should be healthy but until they publish the rest is just guesswork

@wilson, im talking rubbish, there's over 100 labs in England. So that figure is low.

We have been in an exponential growth phase for a weeks already, someone on here, can't remember who tbh, said recently "there were only a handful of deaths" yh well try doubling that number ever few days and see where you end up.
Then the numbers 'suddenly' start going up and the gov acts surprised.
Even if lockdown measures were reintroduced today, the delta version now in circulation will see numbers double every few days for a few weeks.
Some form of lockdown reintroduced by August, dead cert.

Assume each main lab got at least 1, how many English labs are there ? 38 seems around the number give or take i suppose.
There will be less labs than nhs trusts are some serve more than one hospital

The Q machines are now bedded in in most labs and being used daily as part of the routine testing repertoire.
Should mean steady use of the promate kits across England.
Average hospital lab Currently performing approx 1000 covid tests a day across all testing platforms, can only be a good thing for nova regular revenue stream.
Variant identification testing also seems to be increasing across the board.

This doesn't seem to have been picked up by MSM apart from a few WhatsApp screenshot but its worth reading this in full as it adds a lot more context and goes a long way to explain the erratic decision making regarding PPE but also testing which Cummings states PCR is the gold standard, which seems contrary to what I've read on this board previously.
BTW I'm no fan of Cummings et al but the scenario he paints, which is quite detailed fits what we all witnessed.

The difference with Covid is its a year round threat, it doesn't go away in summer. Its mutating all the time, we don't get a break from it
@joker if you had the slightest comprehension about the pressure this puts on the NHS, you wouldn't be saying this. Look at the waiting lists now. If, god forbid, you or one of your loved ones was in a serious car accident and couldn't get the treatment they needed because all the ITU beds were full, as they have been for months over the last 18 months, would you feel the same.
None of these measures are put into place lightly.
The NHS isn't just a covid response team, others get sick too.

After the flat spell recently, labs across the country are now seeing a steady rise in positives. PHE or whatever they are now called requesting positives to be sent for genotyping. All are the delta variant so far. India reporting an alarming increase in delta variant infected patients developing gangrene and/or deafness.
Vaccination in conjunction with testing and effective track and tracing is the only way to keep covid at manageable levels
I've now given up on the idea that we will eradicate covid, we now need to manage it. Vaccination alone won't do it. Testing will be key as much as anything else, if not more so.

They were ****e from the get go.
Anyone with an ounce of sense knew it, said it and was ignored.
The reliance on these 'tests' has been an open running sore to anyone with a modicum of knowledge about this.
The UK bought £3 billion pounds worth and they probably helped spread the virus and cause many deaths. Finally it's being called out, whomever authorised these tests should be held to account.
No test is better than a bad test, to coin a phrase.

Sorry I've no other info other than a feeling in my water. If it's resolved one way or another it can only be good longer term and it means things can move on

Testing for travel will be here for a long time, bad news and good news.
As a shareholder, it means novacyt has a long future just from covid testing, never mind the rest of their catalogue. Bad news, we all need to be tested before travel. If you travel in Africa its the norm there, can't really go anywhere without a yellow fever vaccination card.
