Are any of these new saliva tests LFDs?

If not, what’s the flapping about? It’s very positive that saliva is now being accepted as the best sample medium. It’s better for the individual and it confirms that the viral loads are sufficient for tests to succeed.

Yes. The govt are desperate. This doesn’t really help them other than a positive headline they can try and spin whilst they lock down other areas. As you’ve said this does nothing for schools. Plus, they’re not going to have kids queueing up to get a swab shoved half way in their skull on a regular basis. Spitting on an LFD once a week would be a good solution though...

"Their Covid-19 test, using nasal swabs, will be rolled out across NHS hospitals from September. The company is supplying 5,000 “Nudgeboxes” that process the tests, up to 15 a day, with the aim to provide 5.8m tests in the coming months, said the Department for Health and Social Care. The boxes have already been trialled in eight London hospitals.

The other test, called LamPORE, is made by Oxford Nanopore and can analyse saliva as well as nose swab samples. A desktop machine can process 15,000 tests a day and a portable palm machine, which can be taken to outbreaks or institutions where a “pop-up” lab is needed, can do 2,000."

Welcome back AW, we've missed your moaning. I wouldn't call 92,000 tests a day 'a big way'. These tests add peanuts in terms of testing capacity. They need bits of kit, they need swabs. It's a pitiful improvement. The only companies producing a genuine game changer that we know of, globally, are Awacta and Orasure (who are also very quiet).
