The current track and trace means all contacts have to isolate, which is a very blunt approach. Ideally you’d want to track them and give them some Awacta tests and tell them to test themselves immediately, in a couple days time and once more for luck and isolation time can be halved confidently. Similar approach to airport arrivals.

Not really sure what your point was, but yes, I think he has been a bit naive and got ahead of himself. It won’t change the final outcome. As for not having £50m, I hope not. £10m was for scaling up manufacturing facilities. He’s tried his best to keep everyone as up to date as possible, we’ve had tweets, blogs, videos and plenty newsflow. The alternative could have been complete radio silence like Orasure. It’s basic common sense, I said a loooong time ago that a lower sensitivity test is good enough to get the r0 down. That’s all you need. Stop the transmission, get the numbers down and it becomes manageable. The part that was missing for me was the link between viral load and how infectious people are. Now he’s communicated it, clearly and repeatedly, it’s just madness that it’s not being more readily adopted.

India have started using tests with lower sensitivity, but that’s been out of desperation and necessity. Michael Mina presents a perfect argument for why this should be adopted everywhere. The only thing that’s missing to make the argument impossible to ignore is a cheap 10 minute saliva antigen test using easy to manufacture reagents that could easily scale to meet demand with enough partners. If only we knew of a company that was busy optimising one right now...

CS your post at 20:48 is pretty much it. We’ve got USPs over the competition so no concerns and like you I’m relaxed having given up on the daily hopeful expectation of news. When it arrives it’ll be a cracker, until then, the madness continues. Genuinely have no idea why people would sell at the moment, especially if it’s based on other inferior tests turning up.

It’s just normal fluctuations within a range, it’s recently been rising and you get the same number of posters (using their other aliases obviously) suggesting a leaky ship due to good news. Theorising is utterly pointless, I refer you to your own first point, you’re clueless.
