Your thought was more interesting than mine, I was thinking about a guaranteed refund on the cost of entry to a gig etc. That’s a tricky one, if you’re asymptomatic, it’s going to feel like a real shame not to be able to go to something you’ve been looking forward to. That’s where there’s a real risk of people, very selfishly, wanting to fake results.
As for your thought, you’re right, where’s the incentive for the asymptomatic or those with mild symptoms. With cold and coughs on the way, people will start thinking it’s fine, I don’t feel that bad. It’s the precise reason why mass screening is needed, but there needs to be a major push to encourage everyone to think about the protection of others. I’d hope, as with masks and when we had lockdown that the majority play their part in enough numbers to reduce r0 significantly. With that comes the social pressure to do the right thing. As you’ve said, at the moment it feels like punishment to take a test and have to isolate and they need to resolve that. I’d imagine the tests for national screening will be govt provided so I don’t think cash back would work. Can’t remember where, but there the option of compulsory testing was discussed. For that you’d need testing locations and staff to verify. Matt Handjob has a lot to sort out for his ‘moonshot’.
