Bottom line is that it's a new virus and there are still things being discovered. I doubt all those people on ventilators were having much of a laugh thinking I hope they don't attribute my death to Covid. That said, there was then talk about did they put too many people on ventilation. As time goes on, more will be discovered, better treatments will emerge and it will be something that we will either live with or it will die out. Meanwhile, Awacta test, Awacta test, Awacta test....

Suspected the thread would be deleted again, so I saved my reply. There's some truth to it, even if it's not taken to the full batsh.t conspiracy level.

I don't think it's new news that covid deaths aren't accurately recorded. As she is saying everyone in hospital was getting tested and if they were positive no matter the cause they were being attributed to covid. That's known. There was also the number of days since being infected and no matter when the infection was the death was recorded. Again, this could overinflate the figures. Fine, get it. But, what isn't know is what would happen if it runs riot, how many would end up in hospital and how that would impact all other services and ultimately how many would die. There are also longer term health implications to consider, permanent hearing loss is the latest that's been reported. Perhaps we don't need the current reaction to be as extreme, but we do still need to control it and we still need a huge amount of testing to try and suppress it.

With another vaccine trial paused it’s clear that a proven and safe vaccine won’t arrive any time soon. They might attempt to rush one through but I can’t see much of a queue for that. The answer is effective testing and a combination of it.

DVRG - wastewater monitoring
Awacta - LFD mass screening
Awacta - BAMS for hospitals alongside PCR
BRH - fast throughput (if DVRG improve on their concept they might be useful)

I completely agree with vascular, a huge amount of testing is need to suppress and control the virus. Breaking the transmission chains is the only way to get back to normality

They do realise there’s a pandemic and a 5 min test might be useful. Luckily BRH have one firmly in development and further down the line.

Euclid, yes, definitely, Carl has already tweeted that they'll be engaging with the govt as part of moonshot. So, we're sat on an innovative, fast POC test that will obtain some of the £100bn govt support and the price is wobbling. Good old AIM :-)

I’m not having a go at the individuals, I’m sure they’re doing their best, but it can’t be the govt’s best. He mentions a shoestring budget and they’re celebrating signing up a few individuals. If there really is a pile of cash, you’d think it’d make sense to spend some of it getting tests validated in a timely manner. They’ve known about BAMS for months and they’re only just talking about mass spec in Falcon. It could and should have been validated and in hospitals right now as cases are increasing. Pathetic.

Worth noting the last RNS said 'the results are now anticipated on 16 October 2020', not the results will be in an RNS on the 16th. If news doesn't land on Friday it doesn't mean they haven't had the results and the RNS is in the process of being penned. We might not get an RNS until next week

Interesting thoughts on the route to market. They’re not a huge corporation with a sales and distribution army ready just in case a pandemic turns up. Sir Al might be busy negotiating another partnership that will bring it to market. There’s no point CE marking it currently as it would raise expectations of sales that they’re not in a position to get without distribution. All complete guesswork, as you’ve said we’ve not had any additional info. It came completely of the blue in the first place, maybe there’ll be another surprise. There’s nothing to suggest it’s nailed on, but you know better than to believe the wild ramps. You’re right, it’s a shame they couldn’t have outlined the plans for it, but then if they’d said they were trying to find a partner there would only be questions of why we haven’t got one, when etc etc.

TL, what kind of revenue would you suggest we could get for an Elisa test? - whilst recognising it’s one of the best, if not the best, available of course. Just wondering how much you think we’re missing out on by not commercialising it. Perhaps the intention is for it to be used as a demonstration product, to get research institutions interested in affimers.

My question would be why wasn’t this done months and months ago if it was of any value? They’ve had exquisitely specific affimers since April.

It’s all part of the same ambition to increase testing, they have suggested an increase up to 500k a day before any LFD leaps to the moon. BAMS would be a very good way of adding incremental capacity initially at no extra cost. I’ve no doubt now that Condor is properly up and running it won’t be long before we get validation figures and BAMS becomes integral to the U.K. govt approach. That will just be the start with the rest of the world to go at.

Such an effort... it’s his full time job and he gets a return on his time investment. His recent early exit from NCYT having recently pumped a price of a tenner tells you all you need to know. Good for him, he’s not altruistic

Top maths Pigster. Sir Al is expecting it to be the new gold standard. Given the govt is spending millions on nudgebox, if they figure out the payback is a matter of days then we should see BAMS becoming a key part of their strategy. The constraint is then the purchase and installation of additional machines. The advantage of simultaneously being able to monitor the virus is a huge added bonus.
