The vaccinations have not yet been fully tested, everything so far is based on assumption and sampling. We’re not fully open, social distancing remains. We’ll only determine the true efficacy once everyone is mixing. Given the high r value of the delta variant it won’t take long to spread as being vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t spread it. Everyone is expecting a spike and another wave and keeping their fingers crossed the NHS will be ok. A combo of the delta variant and a resurgence in other respiratory viruses will make this a tough winter... Unless testing is used effectively, by then they’ve not got anything else to rely on. It’s a one way street etc, everyone will be vaccinated.

The only reason Mologic went down the independent route was because PD were suggesting a high number of kit failures. There’s not a prescribed need for independence, suggesting that affidx wasn’t properly validated is nonsense. PresAl has talked about the removal of risk from start to finish, he’ll have played and will play everything by the book. That’s the hole in the idea we’ll fudge the numbers at this stage. I can’t see it happening as much as I’d like to

I’ve searched both the EU list and the MHRA list for this apparently CE marked MHRA registered device and can’t find it. They also don’t quote sensitivity anywhere, only an LOD. Best guess is because it’s rubbish. It’s been available for months, so why would they wait until September to use it. Also dribble = leftover hamburgers

I know of a study that was independent of those two parties. It directly compared the performance of AffiDx against Innova. I would expect those results to have been part of the ongoing dialogue

Thanks for posting. Shocking stuff really given public health is at risk and better tests are available. It’s ridiculous that they have engaged with the U.K. diagnostics industry, they’ve responded - quite often via their own pockets - and since been shoved aside for cheap imports

Schrow, the mind boggling will stop soon enough. They’re insistent on opening up and currently suggesting they’ll rely heavily on being double vaccined as the safety measure. With emerging new strains and the constant threat - especially in winter - of the NHS suffering, at some point they’ll need a pretty good backup plan. Bojo has said it’s a one way street. Obviously he’s promised no more lockdowns before, but you’d expect green light testing to be the next loud message, what else have they got other than shoving us back indoors?

Meanwhile, news again about the number of kids missing school as entire classes or year groups have to isolate. Count them all as false positives, the current testing isn’t good enough.

Don’t underestimate BBI being involved in takeover talks at the time. Ordinarily you’d think they’ve cut off their nose to spite their face by not offering workable costings. However, it’s likely they’ll have wanted their margins to look as juicy as possible to be able to convince someone to pay £400m for them. I’d imagine the govt were also aware this was happening and so didn’t offer them any equipment. They didn’t have a huge throughput anyway, so I’m not seeing it as much of a loss. I’m not convinced by any link to a decision regarding innova. The shocker regarding innova is that the MHRA have allowed this charade to continue. It’s bonkers how long it’s taking to get the govt capacity installed, but that delay is probably the reason the govt pressured/ruled for that decision
