Southerhay: I believe that ITM don't actually store the hydrogen, they produce it by electrolysis as required for delivery to the cars/vehicles. Their high cost relates to the electricity that they use, but they are moving to renewable electricity as much as possible rather than taking it from the grid, so in time they should be able to produce cheaper hydrogen.
But as several people here have mentioned, it's horses for courses, and there will be a place in the market for both ITM and PHE and probably in time, a whole lot of other hydrogen producers.
One further point, regarding transport of hydrogen which is expensive to compress and contain, it may be that this problem will be resolved in future by transporting it in the form of ammonia.
