Yes kenny, I was aware that Aberdeen was into hydrogen already, but I'm not sure how their hydrogen is produced. It would be interesting to know, if anyone on here is aware?

Southerhay: I believe that ITM don't actually store the hydrogen, they produce it by electrolysis as required for delivery to the cars/vehicles. Their high cost relates to the electricity that they use, but they are moving to renewable electricity as much as possible rather than taking it from the grid, so in time they should be able to produce cheaper hydrogen.

But as several people here have mentioned, it's horses for courses, and there will be a place in the market for both ITM and PHE and probably in time, a whole lot of other hydrogen producers.

One further point, regarding transport of hydrogen which is expensive to compress and contain, it may be that this problem will be resolved in future by transporting it in the form of ammonia.

I wouldn't worry about it. Three questions arise in my mind:
- How fare away from being commercial are they: "Being able to roll the project out on an industrial level may take a few years."
- Is it a process that will be able to mass-produce hydrogen at commercial levels.
- What will be the cost of the hydrogen that they produce i.e. will it compete with PHE's low price.
I don't think they will be competing with PHE any time soon.

telephoneman: Yes, I think you're right. I believe that these are the main competitive advantages, basically relates to the efficiency of the gasifier. But I'd just like to hear it from the horses mouth. I'd like to be clear that PHE have got something that no other company have been able to achieve so far, and probably not for some time in the future. That would also mean that PHE have got something that is worthwhile getting patent protection for.

I asked:
- What do you regard as your main competitive advantages over other businesses who operate gasifier systems i.e. what can you do that others are unable to do.
- Please detail your timeline for the construction and commissioning of the first G3 UHT unit.
- Are you able to give an indication regarding the planning and other permissions for the first G3 UHT unit?
- What is the current situation regarding funding for the first G3 UHT unit?

No I don't know, and was wondering that myself. I expect Align will make the interview available at some point, but don't know where or when.

Has anyone sent in questions to Align for them to ask PHE at the interview tomorrow? I have.

Now, if DR is in dialogue with Whitehall, I imagine that will be with the environment Department. If he's dealing with the Secretary of State for the Environment, I hope he's aware that Michael Gove is an Aberdonian, who may not understand anything that DR says unless he speaks Doric.

Yes Audible, that's all good stuff, but it doesn't really answer the question, what does PHE's gasifier do that none of the other gasifiers can do? I mean technically.

I'm trying to get a clear understanding of what exactly is PHE's competitive edge. So it's not a question of what other gasifiers do or don't do, it's a question of what they can or can't do. I recall at some presentation in the past KA stated that PHE's competitive edge was the high operating temperature of the gasifier, which no other company had achieved. I don't know if that is still the case, but it might be, and if so it may be the case that PHE's gasifier produces a higher volume of hydrogen that the others.

If so, it could well be the case that PHE can produce hydrogen more cheaply than the others. To have competitive edge, PHE has to be able to produce something that the other gasifiers are unable to produce, even by adapting their plant.

I'm not sure that that is the case, stokey, because the pure hydrogen doesn't come straight off PHE's gasifier, it has to go through another expensive piece of kit to purify it to the required standard for use as vehicle fuel. So presumably the syngas from the Synova gasifier could be processed through the same purification kit?

I don't know, perhaps the syngas from PHE's gasifier is more hydrogen rich than the syngas from Synova's gasifier.

...I mean the chemical mix of the syngas...

The other important thing that we would need to know to be able to make a like-for-like comparison would be the quality and chemical construction that the syngas that each gasifier produces.

Yes, it would be interesting to know the difference between this system and PHE's.
