The Short interest data is reported every 2 weeks or so, according to the dates. The data may be a simple snapshot for free-viewers and could be more comprehensive. It shows - I believe- the number of shares shorted, it also shows the shorting position to be reducing from a maximum at the 15 June 22 when the short figure was 274,712. The % change is simply the change in the short position from the previous report.

It looks like another report will be generated next week which hopefully will show a further reduction but the shorts don't appear to be anything to be concerned about.

Not sure how they arrived at the earlier short data since IES have only just begun trading on this market.

Nothing has changed that the naive small investor knows about! No one is selling off hundreds of thousands of shares on a whim, there is a plan to make money in there somewhere.

You also raise good points. Why would anyone loan out there shares ? Undoubtedly there must be institutions and larger holders that do loan out shares, perhaps holders that look to the longer term or holders that are confident in the company. You can be sure they'll have no worries getting those shares back!

But why select a company that has decent prospects and money in the bank unless you are sure there is no good news about to drop soon to mess up your plans. Although I'm not keen on the thought, an organised coupé to grab the company on the cheap springs to mind, e.g. Sirius Minerals, a tasty morsel snatched from the hands of thousands of small investors.

I don't think it's an institutional seller. When companies operate a buy back program they buy random volumes, recently AAL and LLOY have done this and from the volumes it's not obvious it's the company buying.

Applying this principle to selling, why would you signal you are a significant seller and possibly you may have more to sell and thus push the price down further? It makes sense if that is your intention!

My money is on shorting but why? Obviously to make money but why the confidence to short ? This company has a lot going for it and I wouldn't have thought it was an obvious shorting target.

Exactly, In-spirit have gone from a demonstration of the Volvo WHR system in Q1, delayed and then promised in Q2 to the present time with, as you've spotted, "no time limit"

You can believe the official RNS all you want but history and fact tells us all they never come to pass.

Everyone can read these flop RNS they are listed here for all to read.

If you so wished you can believe that they all came true and INSP produced a demonstration system in Q1 and Q2 and it is busy pumping out electricity somewhere in Volvo. But alas that isn't reality, I think companies like Volvo deal in reality not wishful thinking.
