anyone got the lowdown on why crude is falling? Someone I know mentioned the other day the surplus was bigger than they originally thought, and he was surprised crude wasn't falling.....is this the fallout of that? I haven't been able to confirm that in any news articles, so just here say at the moment.

more driven by the price of crude rather than anything the blue chip company did itself, so the speed of any changes is somewhat dislocated from the inertia of the size of the company. You're right about volatility though, again mainly driven by crude.

To be fair adding around these prices should give great long term benefits.....im just being greedy and hoping to do my adding in the 1500's again hahahaha ;)

lol well yeah I guess I am a littled miffed I lost out on todays gains, but all's fair etc and all that. TBH I do have a lot more stock I bought in at 1900 so im genuinely benefitting from todays gains on that lot......but I honestly don't see it sticking, not from being a grump, just from the data that's out there......These are extracts from a market news article, which kind of highlight some (but not all) of my concerns: "Crude-oil futures opened higher in Asia trade on Monday after the U.S. dollar lost ground against most regional currencies on the back of weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs data. nearly 5% in a day! I honestly cant see this sticking though, once the quarterly figures come out, once the "marketeers" realise this is just pushing the interest rate hike down the road slightly, once people see the oil production is still chugging out from OPEC and Iran to come......I still think this is s temporary blip.....only time will tell.

It would seem that the increases are due to the poor US jobs figures!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF haha? Basically the markets are happier as the interest rate hike looks to be postponed until 2016. Fickle!? a few weeks ago, markets plummeted when the FED postponed the interest rate hike. If only there was an symbol for roll of eyes.

But the BP takeover is months away, possibly even further? Also not guaranteed it will happen ATM with China and Oz yet to approve.....I cant see that being the reason for todays rises

didn't see these rises happening, especially with the poor Chinese manufacturing figures and awful US jobs figures......my money is still on this rise being a temporary further falls looming FWIW

accidentally sold my lot I bought at 1625 - sold at 1635, so just about broke even. Basically tried to put a stop loss on (with the intention of ratcheting up the trigger point), but didn't specify a bottom price....so the lot sold straight away haha....@rse. Lesson learned on stop loss trading. Anyhoo, im putting my money where my mouth is an betting on further falls. We will see!

def upwards trend at the moment, however if it gets to 1700 I may sell all the shares I bought at 1625, as I personally don't see the drivers for this - China is still in the same boat facing headwinds, oil reserves are still rising, with Iran to contribute soon. I think it could be a temporary rise and may fall back.

I set my marker at 1400's, and if it gets down there I would just have to plough some more in, couldn't turn that down unless the business model started to look shaky for some reason. I may be tempted at mid / low 1500's if the volatility is looking stabilised.

I still think we are in for choppy waters, and the SP could fluctuate wildly for the rest of this year. I think the reductions in US wells will dampen the turbulence long term but not for another few months. I think my prediction of 1400's is looking a lot less likely now, but could be back in the 1500 territory at some point.....possibly ;-)

Wishy washy statement on BBC Business Live...I would say there is still enough pressure to drive things slightly lower myself, which would fit with this statement.....but its so wishy washy almost anything fits with the statement lol. "Jeremy Batstone-Carr, a Charles Stanley analyst, is on Today, talking about oil and metals prices. "We are probably closer to the bottom than the top," he says. It is hard to say we're at the bottom, though, and the recovery in prices may be a long one. For Glencore, the "opacity of its trading operation" means it's hard to work out what the company's fate will be."

you would have to assume that long term (years) the price will be greatly increased. Just look at the oil crisis in the 70's, it rose rather healthily after that as far as I can recall ( I was only 5 at the time lol ;). Sit tight, anything in the 1600's is a snip, anything in the 1500's is a GREAT buy.....if you hold out, I think you could get 1400's - and that is UNBELIEVABLE! You could potentially double your money when things recover - PLUS dividends. That said, there is no guarantees where economies are concerned. If you think you may need the money for something at some point soon - don't invest it, if you just have spare cash floating about, might be worth a punt.

mind you now I say that, it is 2% drop so maybe it has affected the price hahaha - ill get back in my box now

Alaskan news doesn't appear to have affected the SP too much really, dropped slightly but think it was on that route anyway.
