They really must be desperate for stories if they pontificate for 11 paragraphs to eventually get to the same answer I delivered in one sentence....

Does anyone know why Google Finance is consistantly wrong when it comes to closing price?? So LSE has closing SP as 240.7, as do Yahoo, London Stock Exchange etc, etc.... Google has decided the closing price was 240.15?? This happens frequently. You'd think something as definitive as the closing price of a share would be difficult to get wrong - Am I missing something?

I only got in at 100 ish and have been steadily adding to my position.... I missed out on the really low prices - however I'm in it for the long term. Whilst I'm often intrigued with the day to day price (and must admit have it open on my desktop at all times) - I'm capable of understanding that there will be both ups and downs in the journey to the legendary holy grail of £7 :-). Having dabbled in RR over the years it has (rather like my beloved Derby County) flattered to deceive on many, many occaisions - I actually think it has a chance to truly break through the barriers this time and show the world what a fantastic (and profitable) company it really is. I despair that this push for recognition comes amid a backdrop of war and doom-mongers threatening world wide recession.... but it can't all be perfect :-)

What gets me is if I was as illiterate (and stupid) as some of these trolls I'd be tempted to keep my mouth shut and keep people guessing rather than broadcast my inadequacies to the world on a public forum....

Having not been privy to the 12 page (not so secret) secret doument which supposedly outlined what was going to be delivered on capital markets day I am (like most ordinary people) somewhat in the dark in regards to what Capital Markets Day will bring to the table. Assuming there was indeed a (not so secret) secret document which was disseminated to top execs (and presumably then dissemniated further for the likes of me to know anything about it...) I'm not holding my breath for any groundbraking news from the day. I think it will be a good PR exercise with some positive vibes. I doubt they'd be able to co-ordinate the Government announcement RE SMR's with it. Most people already suspect that flying hours are on track to do better than expected - likewise with RR financials. I hope I'm wrong and there's some crazy good news delivered on the day that's truly leftfield - however RR tends to be quite beige and predictable so I can't really see this happening. I am now waiting in great anticipation to be proved wrong.... My prediction - a thoroughly good smattering of positive news and a steady 7p rise in the SP....(or knowing the RR SP of old a decline of 7p in the SP :-) )

Scientists say the eruption in Iceland will probably not involve ash - just magma. If the scientists are right the valcano becomes a mute point with regards to flying. Obviously they could be wrong.....

So the current trend will take us to 260 (thanks Svend) and then when the contents of the "secret" (not very secret by the sounds of it) doc are made public on 28th there will be a bump in the SP... perhaps 275 by close of play on 28th? I'm assuming if the contents of this not very secret internal doc are reasonably widely known already the SP isn't going to go through the roof on 28th. I feel like the boy who doesn't know what he's getting for Christmas.... :-) It's all very exciting... but will it be a hard skinned, bitter tasting satsuma or a spangly new BMX???

a) RR announcing a firm date to re-enter the narrow body market (unlikely (I'm pretty sure the "intention" is well known - however I'm sure I read somewhere they'd need to wait for the next generation of planes before re-entry which is C10 years away)

b) RR announced as contract winners for UK's SMR programme (possible)

c) RR announcing definitive date for the return of dividends (wouldn't exactly be a shock)

d) Something else??

According to what I can see the eruption is not expected to produce an ash cloud - Just magma.

Iceland sits above a volcanic hotspot in the north Atlantic and averages an eruption every four to five years. The most disruptive in recent times was the 2010 eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which spewed huge clouds of ash into the atmosphere and grounded flights across Europe for days because of fears that ash could damage airplane engines.

Scientists say a new eruption would probably produce lava but not an ash cloud.

I presume many fund managers are restricted in what they can buy based on the credit rating of the company. You don't really want your pension company throwing money at companies with low credit ratings do you? An improved credit rating will undoubtedly attract more fund managers which will in turn increase the SP.

There was a huge volume spike and buying of around 2 million shares at 2.47 1013 hours earlier.

Thanks Svend - I don't often look at Volume data but had a quick look yesterday and 4 trades went through in succession all for 20 million shares (£49m each) - trades seemed to be massive at close of play yesterday - Although the 20m trades went through the ticker after closing they were labelled as taking place at 11am ish but for whatever reason had taken some time to filter through... (didnt say whether they were buys or sells).

If the Government doesn't award the SMR contract to RR it needs its head examining.

SMR could be a very long, slow positive....I think if RR secured orders it would undoubtedly have a positive effect on the share price - however the nature of the beast means the real impact on revenues / profits won't be seen for many years.... Still a factor to consider IMHO

Maybe it's a glitch in the system... I saw it on Google Finance and cross referenced it with Yahoo - maybe just bad data.

Just out of interest does anyone know what could have caused the rather dramatic (and very brief) 3p dip in the share price at 10.10am??

Having targets is all well and good but if a stock outperforms your nominal target before all the factors which helped you set your original target come in to play then hold out. I probably haven't expressed this very well...... What I mean is if you set a target of 300 based on increased flying hours, potential SMR orders / positivity, a return of the dividend and an improved credit rating and the stock sails past 300 with only some of these factors coming to fruition then hold and wait for the market to react to the rest of these factors as and when they land. If the stock hits 300 and all these factors have been ticked off then you may feel the time is right to sell...I hope this doesn't come across as patronising.

Should anything be read into this? It does seem odd - especially when they had slots at the press conference where they could announce it?
