I would imagine all planes are built using virtually identical materials. if a fire takes hold as it did in todays incident it can look truly horrific. Thankfully such incidents are very, very rare.

Grounding all A350's because one gets hit by another plane (ON A RUNWAY) makes absolutely no sense whatsoever - Any source for this iainuser??

Peakdread - it's done on an airline to airline basis for what engines they choose I believe. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Google suggests Trent XWB's are the only engine used by the A350...

It's an A350 so has to be RR engines?? but as you say it doesn't sound like it was engine related.

They're reporting that everyone managed to escape.... which is pretty remarkable when you see the footage.

Wow, that was a brave prediction after (checks notes....) the market had opened and RR shares had already gone up 1.5%.

Anything other than giving at least the vast majority (if not all) the contract to RR is, in my mind, shooting yourself in the foot... I hope NTC is right. As far as labour is concerned from what I have seen of their pledges / manifesto they seem very pro nuclear. The smr route is a lot safer than investing in massive nuclear projects which cost 100's of billions per site. It seems a no brainer to me...

Happy NY all. I would be happy to see a steady rise. £3.80 ish by the end of the year would be fantastic.... but who knows what the future will bring. There are so many factors that could come into play.... SMR, Dividends, better credit rating, narrow body re-entry..... Who knows what the market has already factored in.....

Should we buy or sell Jane. Could you be specific and let us know of we're to buy shorts or shares. I'd hate people to think you're just some attention seeking numbskull who blathers out vague instructions and then finesses their statements after the day has unfolded.......

I hope people don't mind me broadening the discussion away from RR in this one thread. Many of us have done very well from RR over the past year. I'm hoping this continues in 2024. If you were looking to diversify your portfolio and buy other shares in 2024 what would you go for?? I'm looking to buy Lloyds, Barclays, Vistry Group, M&S and Sainsburys. Whilst I still think RR has a lot to offer I believe diversifying at least some of my portfoilo would be prudent - The main thing I did this year was sell all my other holdings and plough them into RR.....

It's a bit of a schoolboy error if this deal is indeed big and important enough to warrant an RNS. Having said that the Turkish deal wasn't released via an RNS and that was worth over £2 Billion... Many people thought that was a reasonably significant bit of business.

Sorry, scrub that. Just read the article and the context suggests it's an engine deal.

He can't be referring the the Govt SMR contract can he?? or can he?? someone posted a job section of RR a week or so ago and it was full of very "operational" type nuclear jobs - NOT R+D type jobs but proper getting stuff done type jobs.... I used to work in the recruitment side of RR and they're not the sort of company who would recruit for anything unless the project it was for was fully signed off....

I think the Turkish order was priced in before it was announced. The slight fluctuations (3 or 4%) are (according to a much more intelligent and learned chap than me - namely Svend) - Just noise.It could bounce between 285 and 305 ish for a week or 2 until some more concrete positive news emerges (such as the New Nettles is expecting). SMR's, Dividends, Excellent results, Updates / progress on narrow bodied market etc, etc etc will drive the price higher in 2024.

Looks like the market has already priced it in. Would be nice to see this Barclays action NTC was talking about. Still quite a long tick list of positives to get through in 2024 which should positively affect the SP :-)
