As an afterthought, my point about this being compound interest for LTH stands.

At 85p, we’d need a 9% increase to see the same capital gain (7.6p gain).

Yes it makes sense, no I struggle to equate hardcore compound interest with share price accumulation for the simple fact that (in my eyes) compound interest is baked in / irreversible whereas shares fluctuate. I understand what you mean but with shares you could be "compounding" from £1 all the way to £4 and then see it all disappear in the blink of an eye.

I was playing with numbers earlier (dreaming). If you put £40K into ISA's every year (assuming you had a partners account you could use...) and you managed to get 30% / year (small change by RR standards :-)) by the end of year 7 you'd have invested £280K but have a pot worth £914K..... Unfortunately, RR and its current shenanigans is a rare beast. If you were to rely on RR increasing by 30% / Year over 7 years it would be £14.48 by year 7 (from a standing start of £3). One can but dream...

I've heard about this Santa rally and must admit I'm surprised he can afford shares after buying all those presents. Apparently the dividends from his portfolio buy the presents. I'm confused why he's investing in RR if that's the case - I suppose he must just be looking at the capital gains with half an eye on the potential dividend next year. I heard he's got a larger portfolio than Norway... which is impressive. Good old Santa.

Re-upping to help me find it in a few weeks - surprised that there were no punts at over £3.... £2.69 average seems way off with the benefit of hindsight... although we obviously shouldn't count our chickens just yet.....

I know next to nothing about tax however I believe you only pay tax on "actual" gains - so if you have shares and they've doubled / trebled etc - there is no tax to pay unless you actually cash them in. Secondly I was led to believe that the broker would generally give you a figure if you have been buying and selling shares (and made an "actual" profit). Maybe some brokers do this and others don't?

many of us on here probably feel like we've found willy wonka's golden ticket. i for one am over the moon with the potentially life changing nature of rr's euphoric rise....however i contnually remind myself that 1) we are but one black swan event from losing all our gains and 2) share dealing is not meant to be this easy. i took the brave (many would call stupid) step of going all in with rr about 3 months ago - up until then i had the majority of everything in rr but still had other shares / funds balancing my portfolio. i'm afraid i kept looking at the returns of my other investments and compared this to the potential i saw in rr and did something any investment advisor would advise against.... so far it's worked out well - to me rr is different from many companies insofar as it has a huge amount of residual value - it's not a bank which can suddenly announce out of nowhere that it's found a hole in the books and is worth nothing....many sectors / companies can be faced with catastrophically bad news which can halve their sp overnight. the way in which rr ties its customers into long term support / maintenance contracts means even if they don't sell anything for the next 2 years the money is still coming in. covid pt2 or the emergence of a shockingly bad fault on an engine seem to be the 2 main risks which could lead to a "collapse" of the sp. hedge these risks against the positive news which is out there (smr, return of dividends, huge aero engine orders, renegotiated (higher margin) contracts, reduced debt, company buy-backs and improved credit rating (which alongside the return of the dividens will attract even more institutional money) and i "think" i've made the right choice..... however as someone once said "life has a knack of biting you on the **** when you least expect it". i don't let anyone in the real world know just how exposed i am to a rr collapse.....i think i'll only be in a position to slap myself on the back when this thing is done and the rollercoaster let's me off at the £4, £5, £6 or even the holy grail £7 stop.... happy trading campers. as i struggle to talk about my single minded enthusiasm for rr in the real world i find this board provides a welcoming release. i hope my (and your) faith in the rr sp is proved right....i quite like the idea of not worrying about money ever again.....

These certainly seem to be very operationally focussed roles as opposed to R+D roles. "The future's bright, the future's RR....."... Just thinking outloud... If SMR is indeed the way forward and RR are able to prove to be as competent at producing SMR's as they are at jet engines... £7 by feb 2025 could be the tip of the iceberg....

Many, Many thanks Svend - I will look at your recommendations. I'm not looking at day trading - I'm more interested in swing trading. TradingView sounds good with regards to the social / community features - Will have a look at stockcharts also. As ever, you have gone above and beyond :-).

I'm beginning to look at the world of charts.... As a complete novice it is a bit overwhelming but I'm trying to work my way through the subject in a reasonably logical manner - Having worked at RR I am familiar with the world of acronyms and abbreviations... entering the world of the chartists brings this to a whole new level.... Each youtuber I watch seems to have their own favourite charting website - many of these have basic versions and paid for versions - some are US focussed, some more UK focussed.

To get to the point and remove myself from my left brain abstractionism - What do the chartists on here recommend as a good all round site for creating charts?? I'm not against paying for the service - What I abhor is paying for a service and then realising I've signed up to the "wrong" site.

Any recommendations would be heartily welcomed.

Agreed cevodniya. Opting for one supplier would not be the most prudent way forward. You'd hope rr get the majority of the work. Utter madness not to award them a substantial chunk if they tick all the boxes.

By all accounts RR is way ahead of the competition with regards to progress and ability to get the SMR up and running. Holtec have applied for and been given grant funding (the same funding rr received a year or 2 back). Whilst it does seem a bit of a waste to throw money at a competing bid when you are only 3 or 4 months from making a decision this funding might help holtec gain future smr contracts rather than the one currently under consideration. Does anyone know if the decision in the spring a narrowing of the field or a definitive contract award?

Hi armstrong01. Just thought I'd have a quick look at 3i to see what the share chat was saying.... It's a bit quiet?? I've been following / investing in RR for the past year or so and have been a bit blinkered - However I'm having a look around to see if the grass is greener elsewhere and 3i caught my eye. They seem to be on a strong run - Is there a good chance this will continue? - Are there specifics which are helping this run? sorry to ask such basic questions but I was just hoping you could maybe laser guide my research with some top level thoughts?

I suppose so.... No news is good news etc, etc - It's not as if we've heard any rumblings that the deals off....

I think any notion that the illnesses China is currently dealing with is some form of Covid part 2 has been debunked. Business travel (according to the article below) actually increased despite of zoom etc....(its a 2022 article - but it reflects the sentiment of business execs and their wish to have real face to face meetings rather than virtual meetings)

Sounds like it's as good as signed and sealed..... but would be nice to hear an announcement.

Any inside news on the Turkish order? Svend pointed out to me the other day just how dire the Turkish economy is at the moment with rampant inflation and high interest rates - however this isn't new (ie the economy hasn't suddenly crashed since the Turkish deal was "imminent")- I'm sure it's been stated on here the deal is as good as signed ---- What's the hold up?

I was slightly concerned RR were being usurped - until I read the Mayor of Teeside was spearheading the deal...at which point I'm afraid I couldn't take it seriously.

We've all done it - I tried to sell high and buy back low when it was in the 150's and ended up paying more..... I just hold now - less aggravation / better sleep.
