Smithy, what would be the name of that company with growth potential then that you have just invested in?

Hi with Vod you are really buying into Europe and to a lesser extent the rest of the world. I consider Vod as a Euro stock as most of the earnings are in Germany, and the towers underline that. The £ has risen from its recent lows against the euro, and now the next dividend will be worth less than the last, if the £ maintains its recovery.
I have a property in France and the Vod div acts as a hedge for some of my euro requirements.
I have made money from BT in the past, not least a nice Canadian holiday from the original BT float.

I now believe that it is a utility. Doing the same things better will support the price, such as more and faster comms. Unless of course a competitor comes out with a killer app (Musk?), or the management does something really stupid. Both are possibilities which will keep the lid on the sp, in the absence of really good news.

Just sold two tranches this morning, both above 131p. I am now neither over- or underweight. If Vod is a clear buy, which it probably is, especially if the towers are valued at 24 times earnings, I will cry "I sold too soon", unless of course there is a dip first. If the price falls below 130.34 I will get back in according to my rules.

I reckon that the Vod SP will continue rising for two days after the Vantage towers deal is done, a bit like the Severn bore keeps rising after the first wave.

Hi Dan, I just said that Vod was approaching a 12-month high, so 18.39 is not far off 18.79, you little nit-picker you. I stick to mocktails now, by the way. I prefer to donate to HMG through stamp duty rather than excise duty.

I think the opportunities for arbitrage are non-existent here. $18.31 equates to £1.3136 at $1.3935 to the £. Lovely rise in NY but whether this holds in the morning is anyone's guess. Something to wait for whilst munching my last few mouthfuls of muesli, ok porridge might be better. Elephant in the room is the strength of the £ since Brexit proper.

Dan, I bought at 1.65 but it never went to £2, I bought on the way down, as a "value" stock. Got one old divi then it was reduced. I didn't use this system until about March last year. Lowest I bought in was 93p on 17th March 2020. Last transaction today was selling one tranche at 128.65 and have still got 6 tranches left. I need to reduce to 3 tranches to pay for the heat pumps, or else borrow the cash from somewhere.
I am well in profit, at current levels my break-even is 99.11p, and to attain the highest paper profit I ever reached, the sp needs to get to 134.09. When I achieved that paper profit the sp was 141p, so I have managed to reduce it a bit by these dealings.
So let's hope your dream of 130p becomes reality. To 130 and beyond! and if it doesn't, I have a plan!

Hello Mole-man, I am just in Vod because I thought it was good value at 165 a couple of years ago, and have morphed my strategy into what I describe here, not to brag but to validate my technique, not keep it a secret, with an aim to improve it. If there are other better shares, then I am not aware of them, but I have to keep small-time as my cash is needed for my building works and I only invest the spare pending the bills coming in.

Dan, if you thought that Vod would rise when you bought in at £2, then you are really at the top end of the creativity spectrum.

That said, today has been a perfect day trading opportunity. Gentle ups and downs, and ending just a bit higher than where it started (I assume). As I mentioned before, Vod has turned out for me just to be an appropriate vehicle for day trading, or whatever the clever clogs call it. I will now buy below 127 and sell a tranche above 129, thereafter further tranches if it continues to rise.

I need to cash in a bit as at the end of the month I have large bill to pay for the ground source heat pump. I need to reduce by £15k, but hope to keep on dealing until the end...

So far today I have sold £30k's worth and bought £30k's worth, and now have 78 shares more than I started with. Annualised, that is in excess of a 50% return. I only need to achieve this on 36 days a year to get a 10% return. Good day then.

I could sell at 128.5 or buy at 127 for another small profit.

Could you provide any evidence that Vod has imagination, say of the creative kind?
I am sure their bean counters have enough imagination to deal with their compliance officers, but other than that?

That strategy worked for Facebook, because their share price was so high that they could afford to buy up all the promising newcomers/upstarts. Not really an option for Vod, surely. Also, the culture of Vod is it really going to do that successfully? Look at BT's streaming offering, for instance.

Blow me down. It's dipped to 127 so I have bought back. Now waiting to rise to 128.4 to sell or 126 to buy.

It was just a dip. Just sold this little lot for 128.01 after fees. My next points are 129 sell and 127 buy.

Just heard the sage on LBC speaking to Nick, saying that Vod is one of the most disappointing shares ... He mentioned the towers of course, and said that after the sale, Vod might be able to explore other avenues such as entertainment, which he said that Vod is nowhere in this area.

I disagree. I think that Vod is entertaining enough as it is. Anyone else agree with me?

Just bought back two tranches at 126.55 + fees, having sold them yesterday, and now the sp is back to 127.42 so these tranches are already in the money after a few minutes. Will sell these once they reach 128p, or buy some more at 126p.
