My view is that inflation is reducing the value of Vod's debt and the penny is starting to drop that in 9 months time (say), regardless of any deals going on, Vod's rating will improve as a result of this. The bond holders, of course, will have been hammered. The Qatar deal was significant as they said the divvy is more than their cost of borrowing for these shares. This is usually the case for most companies, but they must also believe that the higher risk of owning shares is worth it for Vod, a significant vote of confidence in the board.
