RE: SP20 Mar 2021 15:34
Hi Robina,
I don't have a strategy, only a system, which at best is tactical. It relies on splitting the holding into tranches, and then dealing in those tranches individually so that if the sp falls then I buy, and if it goes up I sell. This works if the sp bobs up and down. If it goes up a lot then I can have sold all and it still goes up, and if it goes down a lot I end up without cash and it still falls.
As long as this is relatively infrequent (and I have made enough from the bobbing up and down), and I put in some sensitivity, then this should make a profit. When the system breaks down, then you would of course revert to "would it be sensible to (dis)invest at this price". You will appreciate that this system to some extent averages both "good" and "bad" decisions.
This method does not require making predictions that can be intercepted by inter-stellar forces. Nor is it rocket science.
You can build in some assumptions such as if it rises 2% in a day then it is likely to fall, however briefly, soon. If that holds for say 80% of the time, then it's worth using. Always bearing in mind that there are no obvious news stories underlying this move.
The secret is to make enough profit before the next black swan event.
