I always follow the Nasdaq as it does follow (or lead?) the London share values, taking into account currency fluctuations, which I also monitor. Usually a movement of 1c equates to a change by o.oo7p with a static £/$ rate. The shares on the Nas trade at a premium of 0.7% over London at the moment, a reasonably constant difference.
It closed today at 18.47 or 1.13% above the London close at £/$1.3813 rate. Not a significant difference. Occasionally there is a big difference and it is sometimes, but not always, reflected in the opening price in London the following day. Just something I look out for.
It may be that the changes in NY are a bit smoother than in London, or it may be as you say that there are fewer deals, or it could just be the scale displayed on the candlestick charts.

Anyone have any views as to why the 1-minute candlestick chart is bouncing up and down all day today? And it is doing nothing of the sort on the Nasdaq?

Strange day (I was watching it all day between drawing up plans etc) bouncing off between 131.0 and 132.0, and then up to 133.0 and back down to the mid 132's. I presume these are automated trades.
Yes I need to modulate my trading to take into account whether I am over- or underweight, and this is part of my effort to do so. Need to work out some sort of algorithm , presumably like the pro's do.

Yes got in at 1.314. Waiting for it to go a bit higher before selling, as I am underweight at the mo, so trying to be greedy. Doesn't always work though.
I could sell at 133 but waiting for 134. Just got a feeling. And you know what a man has to do when he gets feelings! Probably get punished for breaking my rules.

Just checked my records. I held two tranches on 7th January (8,202 shares). Since then I have held up to 9 tranches. I briefly held two tranches yesterday (9,111 shares), so an additional 909 shares acquired without costing anything. Also the shares have nudged up in value a bit as well. Of course such an increase is less spectacular if you measure it against 9 tranches (around 35,000 shares in play), but it is still an increase of 2.5% a month in number of shares held. That is definitely one of my better months.

I have now got three tranches and looking either to buy or to sell. I am underweight so if the sp spikes I will underperform.

Still, in Vod I have the relative safety of a stable company and the prospect of reasonable returns with not too much risk. Hopefully this is going to be my hobby once I have done with going up ladders :)

About stamp duty, I have had a look at LTF's and would rather steer clear. SD is part of the rules of the game, and I seem to have earned about the same as SD and fees over this period. In a time of "stable oscillation" as is now, for instance, I simply seek to add to the number of shares held, at no net cost, by buying shares for an outlay of say £5k after costs and then selling £5k's worth after costs, when the number sold is less than the number bought.
I have chased losses and gone backwards from time to time, but overall ...

Dan, as long as the sp oscillates up and down enough to cover the stamp duty, I make small regular gains. If it changes by a large amount I can be left behind, and say I would perform less well than doing nothing if for instance the sp rises. Therefore it must oscillate for long enough in order to make more gains than would be lost by a large increase. Other than that, ordinary rules apply in that you should believe in the value of the company in the usual way, and always look forward rather than back (i.e. make decisions based on prospects rather than based on past patterns). After a large change in the sp, I simply recalibrate.

Because I deal in tranches, selling "too soon" or buying "too late" is not the issue it would normally be if I went all-in every time.

Interesting drop at the close in London. If I could buy at 132.40 tomorrow morning I will do so, but it went higher rather late in NY. So probably not going to be possible.

Many more than a few hundred, and at peak had over 60,000, but at present I am 78% in cash, which I will need in a couple of months for my building project, so I can't be too flippant.

To look at it one way, the profits over these past two years have more than paid for the 19 new triple-glazed windows recently installed on the first floor. And I still have enough shares to deal in £5k tranches (nearly four).

Since 19th Nov 2018 I have sold over £1.4m in Vod, and likewise bought, and that includes long periods when I was not particularly active.

Had a good feeling until the late drop today. Thought that it would at least track the indexes ... That will teach me to be smug. Vod turning a corner at last, not!
Anyway, as long as the sp moves by relatively small amounts I should be ok to continue to trade. Buy/sell spread really narrow now, 133.22 to 134.36. At my current holding, break-even price is 72.21, and sp needs to rise to 138.95 to achieve the biggest paper profit I ever managed (when it last was at 141.01 on 4th June), so reasonably happy with that, although it is clear my recent performance has not been stellar. Hobby share dealing at its best.

Hi Dan, I forgot to say that I can now can and reply to my texts on the desktop pc, and painlessly and wirelessly transfer my pics to my desktop, or to the cleoud should I choose to. Have to say that the last phone I got (just over a year ago) it was ridiculously easy to transfer all the settings and for gmail etc, whereas years ago it used to take the manager in Carphone Warehouse at least half an hour of headscratching and phoning a friend for help!

Worst nightmare with it is resetting it if I accidentally tap the selfie icon, wherever that is.

The one recommended optional extra I treated myself to, you can get them on ebay for about £2.79, was a pink cover for it, so I can find it more easily and protect it from dust, plaster and if it decided to come down off the ladder before me. Be warned, it's not genuine leather though.
