As well as taking years to design and commission and costing a bloomin' fortune, the latest nuclear technology is proving problematic and Hinkley Point is already affected by such problems, so we can't rely on nuclear to get us out of the hole we're in.
Probably, the forecasters predicted nuclear as humanity's great energy saviour and now it's all falling apart, with an expanding World population, we're faced with having to continue with fossil fuels for longer than most would consider sensible.

Anyway, whatever the oiks are saying, the current problems around the Strait of Hormuz, although undesirable and worrying, are very nicely timed for any decision maker wondering whether oil production in the FI region is a bad idea.

Yup, isn't it nice and peaceful without the oiks.

As I've said countless times, today's PoO may be a slight influence, but the real issue is what it's likely to be over the next 10 years or so - I'm glad I'm not the one who has to predict that!

Then there's the type/quality of the oil, the relatively benign tax regime and many other factors - some good, some not so good.
However, on balance, if you've got that much top quality oil under your feet and the very real prospects of a lot more, you're not going to leave it there, despite what Keith Padgett may have said in his farewell speech.

For quite some time, I've been thinking that the "best" time to submit any EC funding application would be the instant May goes and the New Boy is just taking the reigns, so no one's really accountable for supporting such a controversial (but probably necessary) application.

After all, fossil fuels are going to be providing a lot of the World's energy for yonks. So if you've got some of your own, you'd be bonkers to let others profit from selling theirs for the next 4 decades, or so, while you just sit on $Billions potential for purely philosophical reasons, when doing do anything to save the planet.

Most of us realise what's happening, but humanity is so locked-into fossil fuels, we can't escape the consequences.

Sabyam, we all want to DISCUSS - that's what this BB is for and we all want to hear reasoned arguments on both sides, but we don't want self-opinionated twits repeating the same old stuff with little or no substance.

Compare with Mogger, who supports everything he posts with verifiable references. Some of those references might be wrong, which is something readers have to work out, but Mogger doesn't post them to distort the discussion, but as something to read, digest and reach an opinion.
That isn't how carrot operates and you and other readers, who might make a financial decision, need to be aware of it.

Carrot, you didn't answer my question, which I assume means you can't.

The point I'm making is that if you can't even correctly interpret and apply a well known fable, that's been around for about 2500 years, then your comments about the topics discussed on this BB are probably not worth wasting time on.

They've also publicised that this is what they're doing and if it were the lost cause that the carrot would have us believe, don't you think someone would have said (for a sum of this magnitude), "stop wasting your and our time on this"?

Last week, I visited Fountains Abbey, where they once had a cave with a resident hermit and everyone would visit the cave to consult the hermit and his wisdom. One day the hermit went missing and was eventually found, ****ed out of his head in a nearby pub and was promptly sacked.
I think we have our equivalent in the carrot, except that no one goes to seek his opinions!
