In a bid to stop the population decline in the NT, Chief Minister Michael Gunner said Territory's bad reputation needs to be changed. “At the moment we know we’ve got some reputational issues around the Territory,” he said. “We have to tackle the Territory’s reputation, and we need to work on our livability issues. It’s about being very targeted in what we do and how we sell the Northern Territory.” He said the only way to do this was to entice industry to the NT. “People follow jobs. We’ve got to create jobs and we’re doing that through our Developing the North agenda. “A big part of our focus is about also convincing industries that this is the place to do business. We believe that the north is where the next great wave or next great boom for Australia will occur.” This was news from Nov 25, the development of the Unconventional Gas Industry could fit in with Gunners plans to attract workers and also help raise the much needed cash within the NT.

If this gas isn't developed, then Australia will likely have to import their gas, so the environmental argument is flawed. If these scientists had a credible case, then they should have presented it through the inquiry like everyone else did.

Marty89, As all ready suggested we might see 40-50p if moratorium is lifted, but if there is a delay on exploration, then price may suffer until drilling gets underway. It's a gamble, but in the long term things look pretty Rosey, especially if things start to move in SA, then imo the £4 is possible, who knows, but could be a while waiting for this!

Yes, Gunner would be the laughing stock if he decided to backtrack and have a referendum after the time, effort and expense that has been put into the inquiry. The inquiry has been very professional and thorough, and the final report will be the tool that paves the way for Gunner make his big decision.

The campaign is designed to put party pressure on Left Parliamentarians lead by Attorney-General Natasha Fyles to maintain the moratorium on hydraulic fracturing. A spokesman for Ms Fyles said she was included in a group email regarding the campaign, but was very comfortable with the decision making process on fracking. Ms Fyles said the government promised and delivered an independent inquiry into hydraulic fracturing of unconventional gas reserves.

Yes, good that old news has this effect on the share price. I think this news has been reiterated at this time to put more pressure on Gunner as the big decision draws closer. Another point is that the Inquiry and economic report hasn't considered the effect of the true potential of the Beetaloo, therefore the only way forward is for the exploration to continue under the current Act and regulations. We need to see what we have before decisions can be made. I've a feeling things are about to get good!

Good to hear that honesty is getting good press and hope this will help change the publics perceptions. People have been easily led by Hogan's gang and the ideum that the Greens are good, Oil and Gas Companies Bad. The inquiry has clearly shown that this is not the case!

Agreed Marsh, they have acted very professionally throughout, and that is the best way to address the issue. Origins submission to the inquiry at the end of January did try to address this point, but after Peppers comments, I think they need to look at this particular issue in more depth, I'm sure they will do so very soon.

In December the Gunner Government's fracking inquiry recommended in its draft report that three years of scientific studies should be carried out before full-scale gas production could take place. LTGs have shown their true colors, NT News picking up on their credibility: IN a few weeks time we will have a clear picture of the economic direction the Northern Territory will take. Fundamental to that direction is the final report of the Scientific Inquiry headed by Justice Rachel Pepper. By the end of March we hope to have a decision by the Gunner Government on whether it will lift the moratorium on fracking and allow the onshore gas industry to develop beyond its existing presence in Central Australia. If it’s been a tiring process for us watching it unfold, imagine what it’s been like for those on the panel who have sat through hours and hours of evidence and waded through thousands of pages of contradictory documents. This week, however, took on a new tone which exposed that the whole truth and nothing but the truth may not be the truth. Lock The Gate made a very serious allegation of evidence tampering and that gas company Origin Energy and the NT Government had been co-conspirators in an attempt to mislead the inquiry. It was a well-organised attack with press releases and media interviews completed within minutes with the unsettling narrative to undermine the credibility of the gas company and the inquiry. But the attack failed when it was discovered the diagrams which the allegations were based off had already been supplied to the inquiry in May and well ahead of the publication of the interim and draft reports. Justice Pepper and her panel were very clear that in no way had they been misled deliberately or otherwise. Since then, Lock The Gate has not formally apologised and Justice Pepper has expressed concern the allegations were neither withdrawn, nor an apology issued. The NT News supports a regulated onshore gas industry to mitigate any risks. All we ask is for both sides of the debate to speak the truth leading up to what is such an important decision for the Territory’s future.

This data will be critical to ensure development projects, if proved viable, appraisal & piloting, can be progress responsibly & without undue timing pressure on environmental studies and approvals". They go on to talk about clarification on production and exploration and ask that the ambiguity is removed. First impressions of their report look very good indeed, unlike my errors in previous post, relying on my predictive text!

Welcome VG, I agree with you that this Falcon board is a great place to visit. One question asked by the panel was when does exploration become production? Santos weren't able to give an answer to this seemingly simple question. Im sure Origin would have been asked the same question, in hope their presentation was more positive.

Well done Dprussky, I topped up a little today too, but not showing on here yet. I caught Santos last night, Tracey Winters, Geoff Atherton, Che Cockatoo-Collins, Tom Baddeley. I thought they could have been a little more positive with some of their answers to questions from the panel. Interesting to hear from WW on APPEAs submission, we don't need another delay!
