C7,
I grew up in ZA and used to spend a few months a year in Cape Town with my Dad until he passed away. Their almost non-existant halth care system will not be able to cope; too many live in informal housing without flowing water, electricity or sewage; too few have regular employment and there has been a growing feeling of xenophobia over the last decade focussed on Africans from other countries.
All in, it is the perfect recipe for complete disaster; especially when coupled with the highest levels of diagnosed and undiagnosed HIV infections known in the world. There is also the problem of XDRTB.
To make matters even worse, Charities often fulfill the role of the state and they are often funded by wealthier wesrern donors. There is a saying 'charity starts at home' - I will not be making any of my regular donations to South African charities until COVID has passed and I have been able to work out the financial damage I have sustained.
If we are facing bleak and uncertain time in the UK then the near future in ZA can only be considered as apocalyptical.
