I was reading a Bloomberg newsletter and this paragraph stood out:

"My point is just that the horror stories about consumers having no money left once their mortgages come due for refinancing is likely overplayed — the ones who are struggling most will change their terms, and those who feel they can afford the extra money aren’t the ones we likely have to worry about."

Makes sense; the media over play stories. Banks do not want to be seen as the villains again so extending your mortgage or moving to an interest only mortgage may be an option for many finishing fixed term deals over the next few years. And less fire sales means they will have more equity in their properties which will make moving onto a deal easier.

It might not help first time buyers though so good luck to builders...

GOV runs massive deficit and suggests cutting taxes - I thought that went badly for his predecessor.

What the CONservatives do not understand is that there are some in the middle who are not prepared to work whilst they are in power; the idea of going back to work to contribute to taxes that keep them in power leaves me nauseous.

Returning to some work under Labour would not annoy me as much as I am still many years away from state pension age. And someone like me would only work a few hours a day so taxes are not really a problem.

Some slow burner news there - they have signed a distribution agreement with an Indian distributor for one of their long-established products [so regulatory approval should not be arduous]. Targetting sugar cane for the bioethanol demand.... they call it Flex-Fuel in India [20% ethanol, 80% petrol]. This should also open the door for other products from PHC's PREtec range on the Indian subcontinent.

The impact on the current year's turnover will be negligible, but this is a positive jam tomorrow story... I would even say organic blueberry jam tomorrow.

With India opening up to the wider world there should be less regulatory problems getting Harpin registered which may open doors for PREtec in due course; increasing rivalry with China may encourage China to watch the results and also become interested if they perceive India gaining an advantage which is of particular importance as they emerge from devastating drought conditions.

The media made a big song and dance about Harry and his 'chess pieces' comment. Fair enough; they have copy to sell. But they only told a bit of the story when they omitted to mention:

"Afghanistan was a war of mistakes, a war of enormous collateral damage - thousands of innocents killed and maimed"

"Some commanders often said...they feared every Taliban killed would create three more, so they were extra cautious. At times we felt the commanders were right: we were creating more Taliban"

It puts his comments in a different / better light.

That gives a lot of leeway but the NAVs may still be based on pre-covid occupancy / usage and historically low interest rates. The chance of near term fire sales would worry me.

"Care of"? = Be careful of...

Care of the REITS - if [when?] the fire sales start, people are going to get badly burnt. It was the devaluation of property that did Direct Line in.

The ramping and getting threads not positive enough removed does not seem to be working; there have been nearly as many threads removed as trades displayed so far today. Down over 7% on Google a little earlier today, which may partly explain why some are getting tetchy. The 5-year chart is abysmal - down 98%:

More forced sellers... And the buyers will be spending their resources on cheap property, not renovating existing buildings, so expect further declines as buildings deteriorate and then get dumped onto a weak market over the next few years.
