… Rolls-Royce has won a contract to supply two mtu 4000 Series generator sets to provide emergency power for the European Commission in Luxembourg.

The two units, each with a maximum output of 2,640 kVA, were installed in early October by Rolls-Royce partner Energolux in the new Jean Monnet 2 complex, as part of the renovation and extension of the Commission's premises.

The mtu gensets will ensure uninterrupted operation of essential equipment and technical systems in the event of a power cut.

Sparky, the privately funded approach to SMRs was paramount 18 months ago with individual companies “showing interest” in all the four contenders left in the “competition” the UK decided to progress (and I have to agree, many moan about it, but it puts a dead end to any progress for those not chosen wish to take (tender faintness etc).)

Private companies wanting to enter agreements back then will have to abide by the UK’s level of diligence (in short, the UK will not allow SMR tech to be utilised by private or public companies under the due diligence is completed).

At that time (coming weeks) the agreement for national roll out for state funded SMR roll out will be announced and those companies with speculative contracts with the other competitors will cease all progression.
