Well I guess you could strip the way you suggest, but could you ? Who would purchase the lesser parts of the company that tend not to produce high levels of profit, how would you inter great the city's that at present are a whole, I'e local network, core national network, customer end equipment, where and how would you put the demarcation lines, who would own the equipment in exchanges or data centres, you could go no and on. I can't see it happening, look how long it has taken to legally separate Openreach,whilst still allowing service to be maintained, as a nation we all rely on the whole for our modern life, start trying to break it up and I can see chaos and the government having to step in. Still as they said in Stingray, anything can happen...

You are forgetting that BT provide the Backhaul for VOD so they will be generating income from that launch.

In answer. You can't go wrong long term. Dividend v good even if it was reduced by say 10% in two years time that would probely be countered by a sp rise higher than div reduction. The longer you are in the better it gets if you account for the div payments. Example 10 years ago around the 60-70p mark today around 300% up and div payments for 10 years. Only greedy people look at the short term, people happy with a good income long term and a good chance of a good gain in the sp this is a good bet. Tortoise not Hare.. We all know how that one ended...

Agree pacemaker. It's about time people stopped going on about the pension situation. At least BT has the b***s to support its pensions, past funding issues caused bu the company have been addressed and a funded plan is in place to resolve the situation going forward. The pensions offered to anybody who joined in the last few years will see BTs contribution bill fall year on year. At least they respect the fact that they need to pay people the pension they were offered by the company when they joined, unlike some who do all they can to not pay it, close it down or just run away leaving pensioners in a finically difficult position. Time to buy extra...

Aus. No problem. The reason I say C&W are bigger is the fact that a lot of there customers rent Ethernet type products at very high data rates' they have SDH nodes in many customer sites as dose BT income per connection is therefore very high. Virgin have Ethernet customers but, unless they are in there local network area it's off to BT for end connection. So they have restricted income opportunities. The thing is this all comes from some jurno who has heard a whisper from a bloke in the pub, Virgin have not made this statement or even hinted that it may be something they may think of looking into, they have there market and it works for them at present, they may in the future look into it but for now, it's just some blokes thinking...

If you look at my original post I stated "redundant cable TV networks" I'e networks that had very little customers left taking TV services, that was the redundant element, not the actual network which has now been utilised for new products which include TV delivery in a digital format. Access to there products is dependent on post code, especially for business products where they rely on third party network from there nearest switch centre to the end user, therefor I described there networks as local for products such as BB. Yes C&W do have probley the second burgess UK network, but a lot came from the death of Mercury, and again relay on third party for onward connection to the end user. The point I am trying to make is that other than BT all other SPs that offer national products, relay on the national BT network being open to them to serv there end user or that users geographical area. So as H-hi was trying to state, BT is no longer, and has not been for a long time a monopoly provider, it has opened up to serve other providers. But they also rely on that access to be able to have national coverage.

Aus. Virgin took over the NTL coax cable TV networks in the locations that they existed, that is there local network over which they provide there services. That have a limited local Fibre networks and a small national Fiber network connecting some of there sites, the rest of there core Fibre is over BTs national Fiber network. BT has a presence in there switch centres where they do not have a local Fibre network to allow them to provide there services over BTs Fibre network, mostly Eathernet products. C&W also have a national network to there TAN sites at various locations around the UK again using BT products and network to provide there services to local customers in the vicinity of there TAN sites. Both companies have a small national network to selective locations, some of which also have there own inherited local network be that copper, coax or Fibre. So they have some core capacity but noware near the coverage of BTs or the capacity to transport data. Hope this helps to explain how there networks function.

You clearly do not know what you are talking about. BT hav given access to there network to other SPs for around 10 years, allowing them to receive a good return off the back of the only fully national telecoms network in the UK. The likes of Virgin haven't wanted to allow others to use there, limited local networks that they inherited after taking over redundant cable TV networks. Job for life, she'll what is wrong with working for the samp company for many years, gaining expertise in that industry which benefits company, worker and customer.

Would love to but, until, May and Co get there bottoms in gear it's still "Stingray" time...

Sell OR no chance, as said BB using BT local network by other SPs money goes to OR. Also OR provide and maintain all the Backhaul networks, which brings in mega money, more than SPs broadband income by far. Sell other parts, well that's started, motor transport, suspect Global may well be broken up as well, allways been a problem...
