Well Gollom as matherdj and Pete have pointed out you are struggle to back up your maths. You stated employee share save schemes, until recently the most you could save in any month was £250 no matter how many schemes you do 1 or 5 at the same time. There was never an option price around £15 and as said, the price would be much lower at maturity so you would take the cash. You are talking, on this matter, complete and utter crap, but most of us had realised after your first couple of posts. That is why you have to resort to personal attacks to try and deflect from your fantasy postings. Oh and by the way I shall make my posts as long, or short, as is needed to make ensure I am happy with it.

Gollom. I shall ask again for you to supply the maths regarding how employees have lost £300k. Hopefully your calculator is not a solar power derived one so you can use it at night.

Oh Dear. in 24 hours you have done nothing bit slate BTs management, past and present, to be fair many of the middle management deserve a good kicking, but the same can also be said for many large companies, so not just a BT thing. Then you give a false narrative with respect to the companies employe share schemes, giving the impression that the company has managed to stitch up its staff. I have always felt that education is a good thing, enabling people to better themselves and make life better for themselves and family members, by using it to improve there prospects and employment options.
I gave you some of my background to show I have a very good understanding of the services provided by BT and that education has allowed me to gain that knowledge, and use it to assist others, ask my old adversary LT. You clearly have knowledge of BT staff grading, it is nice to be called a TO rather than a C3, I like a bit of history. Blazers, well correct, we were required at one point to wear formal image clothing, which included a jacket. Internal education sometimes consisted of a short presentation, thats true, but I and many others, spent many weeks away from home on residential training.
To return to your post regarding staff loosing £240k, well you still have to respond to the data I gave earlier. I look forward to your full explanation of your maths.

Gollom. OK. Never a manager but a TO (engineer), but have a suspicion you know what a TO is, 33 years service, using external gained qualifications to get the grade. Was offered a chance to take a leavers package with early pension (FYO section B pension). During most of my employment I used share save as a savings plan to allow me and my family to treat ourselves with. Please just remember you have to save for the first 3 or 5 years before you get a return, no extra income during that first period, no treats the had to wait. Each year I would either have the shares and sell some or all, or take the cash, whichever was the more logical. Thereby over the years built up a good holding. In my last few years I kept the shares rather than spend as I had an intention to retire early if the chance arose.
Now your maths.
Assuming you are using the current share price @ £1.55 you state that FRIENDS have lost 240k ? you say they are now only worth 60k. Well 60k equates to around 38700 shares. Now if you are talking about share save that matured in summer 2019 and started in 2014 then the option price would be around £3.70 when it was worth last summer £2.10, so logic would say the would have the cash instead of shares. If you are talking about one that is out this summer with an option in 2015 of around £4.70 then they would take the cash at the present price.
You stated they had been worth £300k now worth £60k a loss of £240k well for 38700 shares to be worth £300k then the value per share would be £7.75 the last time it was that high was April 2000.
Your values don't add up. I suspect maybe either you or a close relative / friend are a disgruntled employe as you seam to know a lot about how Its management is structured and how some parts are perceived by the workforce.

Gollom. 300k-60k. Well you can look at it that way but £250 a month for 5 years is £15000 saved with the reasonable chance that it could double if you took the share option, if the sp has dropped then you have £15000 to do with what you chose. The point is you have been forced to save the money not tempted to spend it. With the exception of those who started one in 2014 or 2015 nearly all the ones before have given the participants a very good return, many paid for ther homes early or like me taken early retirement on the back of it. My last one had an option price of 61p or thereabouts so still around a pound up on all of them, the rest have given me a nice top up in Div twice a year. Many earler ones were sold to allow a very good lifestyle while still at work. Now pulling a very good pension and still living the highlife and shares in the bank, which will rise in time negating any current valuation in the meantime nice Div. No members of the staff have been stitched up at the point of maturity they simply make a choice on what to do having had the chance to save the easy way.

Gollom. Please don't tell half of the story. BT sharesave, as you rightly say, allow a discounted price that is set for eigther a 3 or 5 year plan at the end of which they have the option to purchase shares at the price set at the start. THEY ALSO have the option to have there money back should they wish. In the past BT has given the option to end early a scheme where the price had fallen well below the option price, then started a new one at the price at that time with a discount. Your post may have given many the impression that employees would be stitched up with shares worth a lot less than the original price, that is not the case. An excellent way of regular saving as the money is taken out of your salary before you get it paid into the bank. Win win. Also direct share where a regular am oun can be spent each month buying shares at the current price, so at the moment doing say £25 a month is good value if you want the div return. The lower the price the more you have,the higher the div...

Fleccy. Thanks for the tech explanation, never really worked on WDM mux's but beyond it, still the principal is common to transition systems. Hope this will help Aus understand how the network operates.

Aus. Not sure where you are getting your info from. Let's try to make it simple, WDM is not my strong point having very limited interaction with it, but the principle is the same whatever the media you pass traffic over, fibre, copper, radio. One length of fibre from A to B just one not several, you take say 100 inputs, use electronics to turn them all into a wavelength then send them all down your fibre at the same time. When they get to the other end you use the reverse to turn them into 100 separate outputs. Then you send those 100 outputs, on its own fibre to the end user. So one fibre into electronics and 100 fibres out. You could I suppose send all 100 inputs to all outputs without deconstruction and use the end user router to select the correctt wavelength, but that would mean designing a network where everybody gets everything and you then have to select your info. Now that is going to be really expensive when it comes to the end users router.

Well unless they use WDM to reduce the number of splicing points, the small cabs in the link, then you have one tube as the link back towards the exchange, then 23 feeding out to the end user. So once you get to number 23 you need another cab. Even if that can be reduced by clever use of WDM it's still only 24 fibres back to a splice point that needs to be accessible. As said good solution for some environments but no good to put in anything but a foot path and to expand a network will need fibre putting in the road to create nodes to expand from. Deep pockets dose not allways equate to spend spend spend.
